As a business owner -- because thats what these clubs are, they are businesses (please remember that folks)....why wouldn't you charge what the market dictates? And why would you provide a service and not charge?
you FSA people are a ridiculous bunch.

I actually don't know what's ridiculous about this, it's actually pretty spot on. And its not an FSA thing....it's a club soccer thing...

It's a PDA, NEFC, Stars, CFC, Sporting, Maryland United, etc, etc, thing...

Great post by an anonymous person who has direct knowledge of the teams, the coaches and the players. Someone who has been there for all the training sessions and games....and not to mention, knows what to look for when watching all of this. This person doesn't just simply rely on numbers on a computer screen to form his/her opinion.

Great information here folks, mark it down.

People need to take an honest, hard look at their kid. If your kid doesn’t have potential to play at a high level, it’s like throwing thousands of dollars into a fire bit and watching it burn. Put the money in the bank for your kid instead. There are a lot of parents with high hopes and unrealistic expectations.

Wrong. I pay for my D to play NPL. They are middle of the pack and probably won’t be moving up to ECNL but she loves it. Has some very close friendships within the group. That smile on her face on the way to practice and games is worth every single penny regardless of weather she will go to college to play or not.

Correct - Lots of parents with high hopes and expectations

Incorrect - Throwing money into a fire pit and watching it burn

There are many soft skills (look it up) that these kids will learn while on *any* of these teams. More than worth the price of admission.

All good things. But many families continue with club soccer with an expectation that it will lead to something - either scholarships or admission to a better school. Worse is if they're stretching themselves too thin financially with expectations that may never materialize.

~5 years ago the NYT did an article about youth sports cost and they focused on one family who spent most of their disposable income on youth soccer. It would be interesting to see if their outlays paid off.

I think I remember that article - three boys right? Guarantee it didn't pay off financially unless they went after programs and schools for which the kids were over-qualified for. For girls if you're a good player, target right (very important) and have the right grades it often works out, but definitely not always.

It’s just NPL by a different name. If you would pay for NPL, pay for this, plain and simple.

You can learn soft skills and not have to travel several hours to games.
