If you have a top end female player it’s FC Stars, NEFC, Scorpions or Select. End of conversation. And with the DA debacle, the talent is rapidly heading in one direction.

If you say it enough times, it must be true.

Keep saying how good GPS. It still won’t be true.

Sorry, but when you make statements "end of conversation" you play the fool. Players come from all over. Likely? Sure. "End of conversation"? No

          (nothing to do with GPS)

For the USYS MA State Cup (not the NEP/US Club Soccer State Cup), how are teams selected? I ask because it’s entirely NEP and NSL teams, and some weren’t at the top of their league’s bracket. Where are all the top town travel league teams (BAYS, SCSL, BCYSL, etc.)?

Any team that knows it can’t compete in the US Club State Cup enters the USYSA version.

So standings don’t matter and any team that decides to apply and pay the fee gets a spot on the bracket? How much to just buy the cup rather than waste time playing games?

Anyone can enter but if the team sucks they aren’t going to win so this is an absurd statement. Buying a chance to compete for the cup is clearly not the same thing as buying a championship.

                      Scorpions still exist?

LOL. yup but at least in our age group they are terrible. all their best players have moved over to stars.

It is not quite like that though I think it is strange how the prior year’s winner and runner up are the top 2 seeds but then after that placement is completely random. As far as scheduling of course there are going to be conflicts since it is in the middle of the spring club season. The leagues have already set their schedules so I am sure quite a few games end up getting rescheduled though some may be league games rather than State Cup games.

It’s not so absurd if the point is that if bracket spots are taken by whoever wants to pay for one regardless of their record or standing, then what is the quality of the games or ultimate winner? This isn’t a tournament, it’s supposed to be a State Cup sponsored by the state organization for US Soccer, which governs soccer in the US. As it is, you’ve got 2nd or 3rd ranked NEP teams playing 3rd or 4th ranked NSL teams and the town teams that make up the majority of clubs affiliated with USYS are totally absent. Why not just have the #1 teams from the top bracket of every league in MA, from club on down to regional town leagues, play for the cup? Sure, some might not take the invitation and elect to play elsewhere, but if you made it meaningful I’m sure you’d see some better competition than this.

That's an Open Cup, not a State Cup.

State Cup should only include top teams in top leagues.

You don't have the A, AA, AAA, and MLB teams competing for the World Series.

I'm fully in favor of an Open Cup, BTW

Well the “Open Cup” doesn’t exist and this isn’t like a professional league where the clubs are franchisees. This State Cup is the first leg to a National Championship so USYS should be trying to make it meaningful and more importantly equitable. If it’s not open to all the affiliated leagues, it’s neither. And unlike MLB or other professional for-profit leagues, USYS is a non-profit that receives government/taxpayer support in addition to private donations. If State Cup isn’t an open competition, then it’s not fulfilling that non-profit mission. USYS shouldn’t be a shill for for-profit clubs so they can promote themselves as “state champs” in their marketing.
