It's about clubs having to reshuffle rosters every year just to field teams.

The argument that the "goalposts have shifted" by changing from school year to birth year is hogwash. In the school year model, summer birthday kids had the option to play up with their grade if they were talented and needed the challenge, or play "down" with the younger grade if they weren't. Either way, those few kids didn't have to endure one season without a team, let alone two seasons. No one got left without a team in the school year model, but it is happening all the time now, and the consequence is that kids are quitting. USYS took a youth sport that was one of the fastest growing in the nation, and are running it into the ground. Well done, idiots.
What is ECNL waiting for? Switch to school grade/hs grad year age groups for next year to counter GDA going to single band except u18/u19 and rumored to be allowing hs soccer. GDA is coming for you ECNL...your ace high is school grade/hs grad year age groups unless you play it too late. ECNL, don’t be the Survivor contestant voted out with an immunity idol in their pocket.

The switch to birth year for all other girls here was monumentally dumb. 99.9% of our girls end goal is college ball. US colleges recruit by grad year and couldn’t care less about birth year. It’s royally messed up not only recruiting but also the 8th-9th grade years and also the 11th-12th grade years. Youth soccer participation is down 15% since the change. Lacrosse realized this, went graduation year age groups and is the fastest growing sport in the country. No other country has the hugely popular high school and college sports pipeline that we have so it’s stupid to try to copy the rest of the world on this.
Would be smart to switch to graduation year.

You will never see ‘smart’ and ‘US soccer’ in the same sentence .

That’s why ECNL will lead with the change. Ecnl is geared to get girls into college - college recruits by grad year. Smart business move for ecnl to capture more market share of players than GDA by switching to the best for 99% of players Grad Year groups.

So let’s get this straight . The ages were changed for the elite players (lol) and now the elite (lol) players at the encl are going to go back to school year ? Something tells
Me none of these players are elite

Never made sense for 99% of girls whose end game it trying to play college ball. In fact, birth year hurt everyone from the elite all the way down. Youth soccer participation is down more than 15% since the switch. 1/3 of girls are left without a team at 8th/9th grade and then again at 11th/12th. Ecnl would be smart to switch to Grad Year (not old calendar year). Lacrosse switched to Grad Year and is the fastest growing sport in the country. There is literally no downside to Grad Year and huge upsides.

Just wondering if any of the idiots at US soccer have figured out what’s going to happen to the trapped kids who are going to miss 2 years of soccer because of their inept decisions ? The kids born in the last quarter of the year have been well and truly screwed over ! US soccer should be ashamed of themselves to put out such an ill thought out plan !

US Soccer truly doesn’t care but does want market share and will continue to try to eat away at ecnl. If ECNL wants to instantly gain 33% market share and win the long war for players, simply switch to High School Graduation year groups for next year. With the recruiting rules getting even tougher in April, the Juniors and Seniors are completely screwed if they have to combine teams at u18/u19. Junior year will now be the biggest recruiting year for girls and senior year will be bigger than it has been. If ECNL had full teams at every high school grade, hands down, players would swarm ECNL. Particularly at 8th/9th and 11th/12th. No brainer.

That’s not what I asked . ECNL means absolutely nothing to 95% of kids who just want to
Play soccer without getting milked for as much money as they can get . What happens to the kids who do not have the money to pay to play ? Do we just throw them away as collateral damage ? We need to get out of our bubble it’s an embarrassing attitude .

This is a ridiculous argument, as the same percent of kids would be 'screwed' by the school year age groups, just different birthdays.

Same parents who think a couple more months will make
their kid into a super elite athlete. Look in the mirror and
                          you will see the source.

Maybe a little reading comprehension would help you ? Or do some research on ‘trapped’ players . Kids born in the summer months never had to deal with the fact that they didn’t have a team to play for did they ? Kids that are born from September to December now have no teams to play for during the transition from middle to high school for a whole year ! Same at u18 . Just in case you are too dense to understand they will have no team to play for during college Recruitment years. I hope that’s simplified it for you enough to understand ?

The drop off from mod soccer is massive from children born from
September to December . Actual total numbers Have fallen by 20%, last quarter 80%!! Basketball has had the biggest rise in participation in a decade (they play by school year)Let’s not come out with stupid statements if we don’t understand the underlying impact of a poorly thought out plan by US soccer . Little kids want to Play sports with their friends . Not everyone is getting smoke blown up their ass being told they are the next messi .

There is a different mental maturity level at different grade levels.
