Of course you can, everyone can. Maybe not all teams and clubs, but for $50 (and maybe even less) you can get on a team and have at it.

If you want cheap, stick to recreational teams with volunteer parent coaches and when they get to high school, cycle through three different seasonal sports. You get what you pay for. If you want your kid to be skilled, dedicated, and competitive in one sport, you have to pay for it with year round club fees, clinics, camps, equipment, etc. It's no different in any other sport, art, drama, dance, etc (even e-gaming)...

Here’s an article from 2012 http://www.espn.com/espnw/title-ix/a...igh-price-play
Same topic, but 7 years on the affordability and accessibility of quality youth soccer, especially for girls and more specifically poor minority girls, is even worse. The USWNT just named their roster for this summer’s World Cup, and it’s still overwhelming white and privileged. Little, if anything, has changed.
Here’s my honest take on this: the poor don’t care about this topic, they are too busy trying to survive and unless they somehow get lost in a rich suburb, they have no idea what they are missing. That’s right folks, 50% of Americans who really are the working poor have no idea or could give two sh*ts about youth soccer or their kid playing. So who does care? Upper middle class, which are 80-90% white. And the reasons they care: 1) mainly so their own kids stay competitive with their neighbors down the road and 2) because in their misguided thinking the best way to help the poor is to give them opportunities to play soccer (heck it’s cheaper to do that then safe housing, good jobs, and quality healthcare!).
Sadly, youth soccer is like bottled water. We’ve become convinced that the more you pay the better it is. If you pay $100 someone will sell you Himalayan glacial water, but the truth is it’s probably not much better than what you can get from the tap or your filtered frig water. That’s why the TS crowd turns their nose up at town soccer (even though all their kids started there) and preaches that ECNL, DA, or whatever alphabet soup league they write checks to are the best. Real sad...

The world owes you nothing. You're not a special snowflake. Can't afford club soccer? Too bad. Can't afford a Porsche or private schools or an inground pool? Welcome to the club. Again, the world owes you nothing and the sooner you get over that, the better you will be. As to soccer, it is primarily a way for top athletes in this country to help pay for college. D1 College isn't guaranteed to everyone so not everyone needs club soccer. Stop with the whining already. Go learn a trade and play pick up games or in an adult league like the rest of us once we graduate and stop trying to guilt those of us who have above average intelligence, a good income, and are willing to spend it on our kids. Honestly, your opinion doesn't matter to me anyway and I just ignore you and the rest of the socialist Bernie and dumb-ass AO-C supporters.

The best of the best can and do play for MLS clubs for free. Yes, transportation can be a problem... such is life.

Overall I like it when TS gets political...it forces me to stop reading.

Club Soccer is a club. Just like a country club, and a porsche owners club.
Do you think club soccer is a necessity?
