Show me one "top" talent who has been rejected by a club bc they are not able to afford it. The people who want more will always get more... and thats a fact!
Lol. Show me the top talent that is funded including travel outside of the MLS clubs. Good luck.

Funded travel is not available on the girls side. This is a pay to play game. Even if you can get the fees waived you are in a bubble environment surrounded by the vast majority of kids paying up and with a parent available for transportation. That is the environment and business model. It just is.

If only school ball had Fall/Spring seasons that more closely mirrored club soccer.

Yeah, then they could charge an arm and a leg and fleece more people.

True. They aren't paying the entire year of playing and footing the bill for transportation, food, etc. They just aren't. Have you heard about their war chest (check out their tax returns as they have been produced for public view). It didn't happen by being generous.

And transportation isn't just about games, but getting to practices 4 days a week. With players coming from all over it isn't always possible to car pool and some families just can't make it work.

Even most high schools aren't fully funded. I am sure the poster was jesting when asked for "top talent" and noted high school. Nonetheless, even in high school, kids host fund raisers, etc. to help with the expenses.

Comparing the costs to play HS with the costs involved in playing gda or ecnl or some deluxe club league is ignorant. There is no comparison. Different order of magnitude.

Soccer is no longer a sport where a player can get the attention of college coaches. You have to be playing at some pricey club. At least in some sports there's still some attention being paid to HS athletes.

" You have to be playing at some pricey club." Not necessarily. Look at Fury, where Riley is absent and doesn't even know you kid. They charge the highest fees. So how can he speak on your child's behalf? Better to play for a coach with contacts, go to ID clinics, and show well.

ID Clinics is where you can make an impression and show interest in the school.

                            1) It's very difficult to stand out in ID clinics
                            2) Coaches most times separate out the top 15-20 players they are already most interested in. The rest are there to help with their annual budget
                            3) To get on their radar they've either seen you at a showcase (again via communication) or you've already been in communication with them and peaked their interest
                            4) Playing at a low level club will make it very difficult to get on the radar of good soccer programs. Target right and you might get a spot on a low level soccer program but great school. It's the school that matters most anyway

It's harder to stand out at a showcase than it is to stand out at a clinic.

Coaches don't window shop at showcases. They go with a list of players they are interested in that have already contacted them, sent video, club coaches have called about etc. If they don't come watch you at a showcase they're not that interested in you. Don't waste your money at their ID event (you'll get an invite but don't confuse that with actual interest) unless it's your #1 school and you want to give it one last shot. Even if they came to watch at a showcase you still have to impress them all day long at their ID events. Not many will make an offer on a decision based on 20 minutes at a showcase.
