D2 & D3 ID camps flourishing right now, building the recruiting pipeline (2022-2024) and getting the 2021 D1 players, now as colleges begin to admit for fall of 2021.

D1 suffering most. Who wants to go D1 if they can’t even visit the college? Virtual visits and zoom calls? Lolol!!!!!

Do one national event for playoffs, that's it, preferably in the middle of the US. Don't keep hitting FL and CA.

Anyway, with the dead period extended no one will have to worry about showcases for awhile.
And those that want to go to a specific school or to a national contender in this area are just screwed?

Those showcases and events are in CA and FL due to cost of travel (you can usually find cheaper airfare to them instead of something like KS) and they 99% of the time have good weather.

At least ECNL has a proven track record and a great reputation but if you’re in GAL have they even had any events yet? Time for a reset in youth soccer as the above post highlights.
Showcases are convenient for coaches - they can shop a lot of talent in a few days. Now, more than ever, they won't have the time or $ to haul around to league games plus it will limit their recruiting pool. Soccer programs don't have big football and basketball recruiting budgets. Sure many kids stay within 3-5 hours from home but that covers a lot of territory. And top programs pick top talent from across the country. Should events be more regional, absolutely, but you can't eliminate them. Have 2-3 regional ones and one national one at the end of the year for the top half of the boards.

May and June the weather is fine across the U.S. If a player wants a school across the country they can go to an ID event - chances are they'll have to go to one regardless. Coaches rarely make decisions based on 20 minutes at a game. Most kids, even athletes, won't venture too far from home. You can still have a national event, just don't have multiple. GDA/GAL is especially terrible with this - they only do national events and almost everyone has to fly to them. At least ECNL has some regional ones many teams can drive to

GDA, yes. GAL listened to their market and push more regionalized now.

Even college coaches admit that those "ID" camps you are paying for are a scam. Sure maybe a player or two might catch their eye but find me a player that went to an ID camp ,without prior recruiting material, and came away with a scholarship. If they are looking at your kid and ask you to go that's one thing but to blindly go is pie in the sky.

Lol more regionalized like the one they cancelled this weekend? What a missed opportunity for the older age kids.

If you're a 2021 wanting a D1 school, you would have been on their radar way before Covid hit so lets not make excuses.

Regardless coaches want their top picks to attend so they can watch them more closely, see how they perform over many hours, how they interact with others, current players and the coaching staff. Many will separate out their top prospects into another group. If you're not in that group then you're just there to help pad their budget. Sometimes a top player will get moved into the prospect group.

If you're going to do them do what you can to make sure they're really interested in you. Mass email invites with no personalized info. No. A phone conversation between the coach and your club and the coach says "we really want to see Emily again. Make sure she comes." If you think the program is a reach for soccer then only do it if it's a top school pick and you want to give it your best shot. Just don't expect much.

Assuming we even get to have "normal" play later this spring I think tons of schools will do them this summer because they're all behind on recruiting and there will be so few showcase opportunities this winter and spring.

                    not the poster

Connecticut shut down club sports until Mid January. So stupid and hopefully no one follows that. Outdoor isn't an issue, just indoor so do don't have that. With the mild winters we've been having the last few years kids can play outside quite a bit with proper layering

Lol yes; sorry the Nannies' Cancel Culture Tour is holding back showcases, but how is that GAL's fault?

What was cancelled this weekend? GA didn't have any events and the EDP tournament is still going on.

There were some filler spots still before covid, especially at lower level programs. Top spots were filled or at least identified and targeted.
