Exactly - So some schools said they would not play away games that allowed fans and managed to get 8 games or more at home while only playing 2 or 3 away. Talk about homefield advantage! Meanwhile, these same schools that would not travel to schools allowing fans, allowed THEIR fans at their home games.

A certain seacoast school rhyming with hoister giver - cancelled scheduled away games because they would not travel to schools allowing fans, but they themselves allowed fans at their own home games.

Girls played 9 home games and only had 3 away games and host the tournament games...
Boys played 8 home games and only had 4 away games and ALSO host their tournament games... that's too much of a coincidence to be a "random draw".

My kid has been playing in MA wearing a mask and it's not an issue at all. Sorry Bedford Dad.

Allowing or not allowing fans is a very small issue compared with actually playing the games.
Looks like Oyster River played Newmarket during the regular season so they are clearly getting the important things right

Most schools live streamed their games. Some parents probably preferred that. “Sorry, can’t make the game today. But have fun playing in the rain. I’ll be watching though (from the bar across the street)

NHIAA dropped the ball on this one.
Any school that refused to wear masks knowing that the other school wouldn’t be able to play them in the playoffs took full advantage of the situation.
            The NHIAA tag line is:
“Winning lasts for a day. Sportsmanship lasts for a lifetime.”
            Maybe they should change it:
            “Winning is important. Period.”

Fortunately it sounds like there were only these 2 Div 4 teams who did this.

Another typical jerk. BTW. Not a Bedford dad. Could care less. Just making an observation. It's chumps like you that ruin this forum.

The undeniable fact and REALITY is that Portsmouth (not so) Christian and Epping totally manipulated and took advantage of the Newmarket schools requirement for masks to advance. If these school administrators and AD's truly wanted to be in it "for the kids", they would have worn masks and played Newmarket. They saw the opportunity to get the W and did exactly that without considering that they caused the season to end for Newmarket without letting the kids decide the outcome.

Am I surprised the Christian school in Portsmouth did this? Not at all. The WORST sportsmanship in NH HS Sports has - and always will be the private religious schools. BG, Brady, Trinity, St. Thomas, et al have always had horrible student and school sportsmanship over the years. Just another example.

Perhaps NHIAA should have had 2 separate tournaments. One for masked teams and one without. Joking aside, stop placing the blame on Epping and Portsmouth Christian and place the blame where it belongs; squarely on the Newmarket administration.

How many cases of Covid transmission have been proven due to soccer matches this fall? I feel for the seniors of Newmarket. This has nothing to do with sportsmanship.

Just another ignorant bigoted post and an example of the hatred that is prevalent today. This bigot makes a statement, labels it "fact and REALITY" when the only reality is it's their OPINION. There is no evidence what so ever that anyone made any decisions on wearing masks just to manipulate anything. Their same argument could be made that if the Newmarket AD & admin was in it for the kids, they would have let them play.

But the real beauty of this ignorant statement is attacking christian schools. Most normal and rational people know that all schools, public or private have bad sportsmanship. Just read the paper and you will see stories from all types of schools. I've personally witnessed terrible behavior from schools like Oyster River and Merrimack Valley. For example, in the 2018 season during a playoff game at Oyster River, OR students cheered when a Bow player was injured and made derogatory chants while the athletic trainer tended to the injured player, all while the OR AD stood by.

Clearly the poster here is upset at Newmarket not being able to play and is angry and hateful and is blaming christian schools. Maybe you should direct your unhinged rant at the real culprit, the Newmarket AD & administration fro not letting their kids play.

Sheeesh, that's a stretch. First, that any school looked at it as an opportunity to advance. Take the tinfoil hat off. Second, the anti-religious school rant is pretty humorous.

Reality is as soon as it was determined to let each school district do what's best for them (which I agree with), this was always going to be a real possibility. It was mentioned here on this forum.

NHIAA doesn’t care about sportsmanship. Last year I know a team and a coach that online bullied some players from another team. NHIAA was notified with evidence and NOTHING happened. All talk and no action. Shameful.

is bullying a crime? what would you want them to do?

Other than a little irony, this really has nothing to do with school names or religious affiliation. The point is they all have the opportunity to show real sportsmanship.

There are already other examples of schools who readily agreed to wear masks in the post-season tournament when asked by their opponents, fully recognizing that by saying no they would get an easy forfeit win and end the season for the other team. For instance, Dover wore masks to play Portsmouth, even though their own school district policy did not require it. Wonderful sportsmanship and leadership.

For an organization that says it values sportsmanship and will punish bad sportsmanship, they pick and choose what to take action on. Looking at what they say on their web site, one would think they would have concerns about a team and a coach taking part in cyber bullying of another team

"one would think"? so this is now becoming an opinion.
