College Soccer training schedule off season?

After the official season is over, what is the spring and summer schedules look like for a college soccer player in D1 or D2? Is study abroad possible in the spring?

Doubtful a coach would let them miss the spring schedule especially is on scholarship.

They usually train with team up until they leave for summer, whenever that may be, and then return on Aug 1. And they best be in shape when they return if they want to play.

Off-season only allows 10 hours of team activity per week. Mostly strength and conditioning. Usually 4-5 scrimmages from March until late April.

That's team activity under the supervision of the coaching staff, mind you. If you are D1, the school owns you, plain and simple. Some schools even restrict majors.

The school owns you if you're a role player - if you're the stud of the team and you want to go abroad in the spring, you can go (it happens) - the only choice the coach has is to take the money away, thus risking a transfer - transferring has become easier to do.
Of course you can ask the coach about it before you commit.

Taking money away is not as simple as it sounds. Most schools have appeal boards that are made up of non athletic personnel. You'd better have a good reason either rules or academic or they'll tell you where to go. Transferring is easier unless the coach wants to play hard ball.

It does happen, but it’s rare. D1 benches are littlered with role players or practice players who were thought to be studs during the commitment process.

Go ahead and tell the coach you're going abroad for a whole semester. Good luck getting PT when you return. Activity may be officially limited, there's plenty going on unofficially that you're expected to participate in all the time. That's why some opt for D3 to get a more balanced experience.

Shoot, I must have a great coach.

I told him I wanted to go overseas for the spring semester, and he offered to buy me a ticke.....hey....wait a minute....

That $10k leash isn't as good now as it originally appeared to be, is it? haha

Wait, do you assume they played in a league or club that had that commitment? I guess you prove the point of many that it's required if you want to play D1.
