- referees are generally poor and allow physical players too rough up talent.
- you need players who can retain possession and see space
- unlimited subs ( for all practical purposes) allow coaches to recruit athletic kids and just keep rolling them out there to pressure
- playing thru midfield and creating comes with some risk. Most coaches are not willing to risk it.
Makes the game hard to watch at times for the neutral, but it is what it is.
