Though I would start a new thread to be a catch all for ECNL in this state. I'm troubled by how clubs are handling tryouts. XF hasn't announced new teams yet but has told everyone it will be based on this current seasons performance. How do you evaluate a player who only got to play a handful of games at the beginning of the season? It appears several ECNL teams are not announcing rosters until Reign Academy players figure out their plans. Would like to hear how other clubs are handling their tryouts with high school aged teams.

It appears several ECNL teams are not announcing rosters until they figure out whether Reign will get screwed over, and they'll have the opportunity to replace their own benchwarmers with superior Reign girls not wanting to spend a year of their college recruitment window playing for a second-tier league. Would like to hear how other clubs are handling their tryouts with high school aged teams.

Some questions I’d have and encourage my kid to ask or at least think about before switching clubs and coaches (or, for that matter, before staying put) in this environment:
— what do people I know and trust and who have first hand experience with this coach say about him or her?
— do I trust that this coach will advocate for my kid, be flexible and creative in dealing with how to get the most out of the current environment, and provide my kid with opportunities to develop and showcase herself in the recruiting process?
— how big will the roster be? a 20+ player roster can lead to a pretty toxic environment, and that can carry over to starters as well as non-starters. The most cohesive and successful teams my kids have been on have generally had smaller rosters, although the right coach with good enough players can generally find success with a larger roster too
— do the parents on the team refer to non-starters as “bench warmers” or and their own children as “superior girls” and does that kind of an attitude carry over to the rest of the team? Beyond that, do I know anything about the culture of the team and the parent group and what role the coach plays in building a positive culture?
— where, realistically, is the kid on the recruiting timeline? If you’re already committed or have an offer, you can almost certainly take your time and pick your spot on your own timeline, and your college coach probably won’t care much as between the various strong clubs available (if they try to place players to NWSL or know Amy or like the Reign’s style they might like the relationship with Reign, or if they have recruited a bunch of players from one of the local clubs or coaches or play a different or more direct style they may prefer another club). If you are a sophomore or junior who doesn’t yet have schools expressing interest, being on a team with a coach who will advocate for you, help you realistically assess your options. If you are a 7th or 8th grader you shouldn’t be worrying about college at all— the recruiting timelines already were pushed back over the past couple years and will only get pushed back further with coaches needing more time to assess the next couple classes and figure out what resources they will have going forward.
— what will the experience at this club look like if you assume it may not be possible to travel for soccer this summer or fall or even next spring if there’s a second wave of covid as many anticipate? If leagues don’t matter at all and all we have is training and whatever friendlies can be set up where would I want to be.

Anyone know when the new season starts? I’m doubtful ECNL Nationals is happening in June. Isn’t that the official event that wraps up the season?

ISC should merge the A team with Eastside ECNL and Reign should merge with Seattle Uniteds ECNL. Win, Win for everyone.
