New MLS "Elite Player Development Platform"

Interesting that they don't refer to this as a league but rather a "platform."

    What does that even mean?

It means USSF has handed off youth development to MLS

I wonder if this includes the girls. Wondering if the program is in addition to club or if it will try to replace club like the DA. Be interesting if it became more of an EPD program but more exclusive of top 20 or so players in washington.

MLS said they'd have "something" for girls in the future when they announced this at the time of the DA collapse, but don't hold your breath. DA was shuttered because it was what MLS wanted and the girls got thrown under the bus

It seems they let in a lot of non-mls former boys da teams. This will likely become the top tier on the boys side. Did XF choose to play in the second tier boys ECNL or were they not accepted to this league or are they ultimately going to try to do both?

Not sure if they would've even been invited. Their older teams showed up all the MLS clubs in our region and were unjustly demoted at the beginning of this year. The MLS would want to keep them out.

This league has 3 teams north of the bay area. ECNL is 100% the best choice for this year. As always, Xfire will be playing in the best league possible IMHO. The funny thing is that this is essentially what the academy could have been, but the MLS wanted to have their own thing. My how the world has changed in so many ways.

This isn't a big shift from Sounders schedule with DA, honestly, especially after XF got (unfairly) demoted to second tier DA and Sounders no longer played them. They travel to play or teams come here. They also played Vancouver here or in Canada -- not sure if they're in the new league but I'd assume so

All MLS teams are in the new league, including the three in Canada.
