There are interesting things being done with models as well. You should check them out too.

Great model where you can play with mask usage inputs
http://dek.ai/masksim/
This was built to help westerners understand why Asian countries are having more success than Western countries. It has received a lot of praise for it’s rigor.

Cloth masks, as well as surgical masks, are designed to protect others from virus spread by the mask wearer, not the other way around.
Wearing a mask is not meant to be a replacement for social distancing, handwashing and other efforts.
But there are few studies evaluating the effectiveness of fabric masks at preventing respiratory diseases from spreading, researchers from the U.S. National Academies of Sciences, Engineering and Medicine wrote in an April 8 letter to the White House Office of Science and Technology Policy.
In one study, a mask that used 16 layers of handkerchief fabric was able to filter out 63 percent of 300-nanometer-sized particles. (The coronavirus is between 50 to 200 nanometers in diameter.) But that mask was harder to breathe with compared with thick, tight-fitting N95 respirators, often used in hospitals, that can block minuscule particles. Wearing a cloth mask with that many layers would be uncomfortable and may “cause some to pass out,” the researchers wrote in the letter.

Masks are nearly universal in Asian countries now where they have greatly brought down their numbers. You don't need to wear one all the time just, in places where you can't always distance. Distancing+masks+hand washing = multiple protections that all add up

More education, social distance, and better hygiene has slowed this pandemic not the ridiculous t-shirt material people are wearing on their faces.
Check it out on the google. Covid19 dosing matters with this virus.
The model I posted a link to also illustrates this. That is the one that was created to help Westerners understand why face masks work. It has a slider where you can change the permeability of the face covering. Check it out.

Wow
Now I understand. I always thought if were exposed to it at all, you caught the damn stuff. Makes sense.

So for example if you are exposed to lets simplify, one or two virus thingys tour chance of contracting COViID19 is very small. If you are exposed to say 1000, then the chances of you coming down with COVId19 and the virus replicating in you system are far higher. So to simplify, any reduction has a benefit. This is why health experts started to recommend even a handkerchief face covering as compared to nothing.

It is not binary. You can be exposed to the virus and not contract COViD19. Do you understand this point? We can get into water droplets and sizes and talk about aerosols, but you need to understand the biology first.
Low level exposure better than high level of exposure. Does that make sense?

Some dosing articles
This concept is very important. I picked one from the Spectator too, so the conservative folks will read it.

Low dosage exposure
Is essentially what doctors did before they had vaccines. If the dosage is very small, you might ever know you were exposed to it and you might have some level of immunity.

Proper fit matters nearly as much as fabric - a poorly fitted one, or as I just saw today one pulled down over your nose, isn't not nearly as helpful.
