She needs to go. UO has way too much talent to play as poorly as they are. Players have given up on coach and it looks like coaches are just marking time until they get fired. With the talent verbally committed for 2020, UO needs to get a new coach or those commits need to seriously look at going elswhere.

They have made some questionable recruiting calls for sure. They should be able to draw top level talent and apparently they are not.

OSU made a fresh start and are having a very strong year.

I don't think the recruiting is the issue. The issue is terrible coaching and nonexistent leadership. But yes I agree Oregon State is a great example of the good that can come from making a coaching change. Question is does UO leadership care enough about the program to realize its a sunk ship with Mertz at the helm?

OSU will finish bottom 1/3 of conference again and will not make the playoffs again. You have a good season when you schedule preseason games like PSU and Idaho State

Maybe. But they will beat Oregon handily this year, and they are on an upward trajectory. No they aren’t Stanford or USC. But they’re a heck of a lot closer than Oregon is. And they look like they’re having fun. Oregon team looks miserable, bored, and disinterested.

I’d wait till after the civil war game to announce a winner. Oregon State is doing well with a lot of local players that Oregon and others passed up on. Have to like that!

FYI; Oregon didn't pass on local talent at OSU.... Players choose OSU over Oregon in most cases.

OSU is a great academic school.

There were a lot of last minute local adds by the new coach. Not all but many were passed over by both Oregon and previous OSU coaches.

                        Said no one ever.

The soccer facilities at OSU are by far the most embarrassing in the Pac12. They have been the worst team in the division for the past decade. Until this year, they had a head coach that seemed resistant to change even in the face of blowouts and consistently stubbed his toe with local recruiting. OSU has been picking up the leftovers from this area after better talent has left to places like GCU, Nevada and Seattle let alone Cal, Oregon, Notre Dame, Santa Clara, Gonzaga, Washington and Minnesota. That doesn't seem to follow your narrative that kids prefer OSU. Unless your parent, sibling or grandparent is an alum, the Beavers haven't been at the top of any kid's wish list for some time. I am hopeful Coach Kagan will now get things pointed in the right direction.

You are funny. The statement is these kids chose OSU over UofO. The only Pac-12 team OSU has a winning record against is UofO. UofO plays soccer on turf in a stadium they share with lacrosse. Only turf field in major college soccer is UofO’s. Not sure they take this serious in shadows of other sports in Eugene; And the campus at UofO is way ugly. OSU campus is beautiful. Yes these girls had options and chose OSU. Can’t speak for two late adds from this year only speaking for the others.

I would agree that OSU soccer facility is AWFUL and embarrassing considering it is PAC 12. If you have ever gone to a game and sat in the stands you would agree

Guess what? The entire conference plays football on turf. The advancements made in turf make is very advantageous to play on - this isn't the AstroTurf of the '80s or even the thin artificial turf used in the '90s and '00s. New turf is much more forgiving on joints and more realistic to grass than ever before and is the preferred surface for fall and winter sports in the Pacific Northwest because of the annual rainfall.

Attempting the create the narrative that Oregon's 20+ million dollar Papé Field is somehow inferior in any way shape or form to what the OSU girls have at their disposal is frankly laughable.
