    In Oregon, OYSA=ECNL=GDA

Aren’t all three leagues basically exactly the same?

    #2
OYSA has a pretty big issue, which I don't know what the solution is. They are a garbage league, especially at u14 and above once the ECNL and GDA scoop up most the good players. There is just no quality depth. The coaching isn't good enough across the board. Its all the same style for 90% of the teams, Boot the ball to the biggest/fastest players.

So the question for me would be is there a way for OYSA to make some sort of changes (structure of the league, rules, something) that would some how affect the play style and helpl improve their quality?

Keep your head in the sand if it makes you feel better about your choices.

Please don’t fix Oysa! My dd’s team used to be in the bottom third of Premier. They didn’t lose anyone to GDA or ecnl so now they are at the very top of their age group. The remaining better teams are playing up a couple years so we are king of the mountain now and love it. Dominating weak teams and scoring loads of goals to show college coaches is a dream come true for our players. College coaches don’t know the difference because they recruit our players just the same too so I don’t think Oysa is a problem or needs to be fixed in any way.

          No fix needed

There is no fix needed to OYSA. The leagues are diluted with ECNL and GDA.

The Thorns GDA has not real place in the state. They are not competitive and with CrossFire Premier leaving the GDA and the Seattle team moving to Tacoma it seems the GDA is going to be a bust here in the NW. (maybe around the country soon)

The fix is for FC to give up their ECNL program and the Thorns to drop their GDA program. The best girls who can afford the ECNL can play there, the focus in Oregon will be OYSA.

            OYSA representing! ( :

. . . unless they tick off the Portland clubs enough to create another split. ) :

              OYSA created the split

Did OYSA create the split ?

Eight clubs left OYSA promised the world and what we got was OYSA version 2.

Then the alliance clubs went back to OYSA. To keep youth soccer viable the OPL teams came back to OYSA. Basically the OYSA teams were able to outlast the remaining OPL teams.

Let history be the judge, money was the driving factor in all this. Take a deeper look.

Man that post above was playful - ease up.

So many snarky things have been said and could be said about the alliance/peregrine thing, but hey it is sunny outside, why dampen the mood?

ENCL is a good league and gets some good players from Oregon. They will help get college exposure. But if your daddy isn't a partner in the law firm, you probably can't afford. So only some of the best players.

Thorns is a good league and gets some good players in Oregon. But of the elite players in Oregon, 97% of them want to play high school soccer so they struggle to get top players. They get some girls into college but not really geared toward that. It's still expensive.

OYSA is not a very good league so you have to travel for FWRL/NL, tournaments, etc. Bafflingly enough, there are some good players on these teams and many of those teams are getting good numbers of girls into college soccer. It's still expensive.

4-5 years ago we were consolidating talent in Oregon and I think it was good for the top players and they were able to complete nationally. However, now we are more diluted than ever.

seems like gda should have helped to consolidate girls soccer in Oregon but they prohibited kids from representing their high school. so it just diluted soccer even more in the state.

it wouldn't be terrible if the best local teams also played each other. but for whatever reason they don't.

i would hope to see the landscape improve over the next ten years. eliminate rtc/odp. close the thorns academy. invest money in coaching education for everyone. improve the referee quality.

                      Funny enough

4th place OYSA Eastside Oregon 3 vs crossfire Washington Ecnl 2

4th place OYSA Eastside Oregon 2 vs crossfire Oregon Ecnl 2

Fc Portland Ecnl teams would lose to most anyone good in the state and no one believes they even have good teams anymore.

                      GPS > crossfire Oregon 03 > thorns 03

Washington Timbers 02 > Thorns and Ecnl teams in Oregon

Salmon creek 00 out college placed Cu Ecnl and fc Portland Ecnl 00 who can’t even keep teams together at the older ages.

Eastside 04 > CU and Fcp Ecnl

Ecnl is a joke now. Fc Portland and cu went from being in dead last to after the da rapture actually scoring goals. Hilarious. No they play b and c teams and try to claim they are good.

If your team and coach is good you will be fine. Your league means jack **** if your team is bad or coach is bad.

History shows us this. The game in Oregon is to make people believe you are better because you pay more or hide from everyone.

Why can’t Fc Portland and cu keep 00 Ecnl teams together? Perhaps it’s because people got smart and realize they are being taken for money.

                          Fc Portland Ecnl is terrible

Fc Portland Ecnl 01 was 4th in OYSA

Oregon is not unique in this regard; in fact, given recent events, southern cal soccer dads are better at it then we are.

Oregon soccer has never been relevant when the best teams are around.

It’s only when they leave do you see success.

This is fact. I guarantee you that your Ecnl da OYSA coach can’t PROVE otherwise.

There is a lot of lying.

The moment a CU Ecnl kid gets 1k a year to go to western Oregon after playing 40k over 4 years when in that same year a Westside kid gets 40% tuition at the same school you know it’s all smoke and mirrors.

When a Fc Portland Ecnl kid can’t even get into a NAIA school while a Eastside kid goes to OSU you know things are what they seem.

When 25% of OYSA teams are better than their Ecnl or thorns counterparts but the rest of the league is terrible you know things don’t add up.

When thorns are weaker than everyone and come in and claim they are better than everyone by default and steal kids who are already committed and claim as it was the da you know they are full of crap.

This is the state of Oregon soccer
