The craziest thing to me is that USSF and these other national federations wrap themselves in the patriotic flag and promote women’s empowerment by sponsoring tournaments like the SheBelieves Cup, and the behind the scenes treat the women like indentured servants. It’s shameful.
OMG! You just discovered that women in other countries aren’t treated as well as they are in the US? What a revelation!

Whatever happened to being proud to play for the badge/flag?

Beginning to sound like the US Ryder Cup Team. We need to get paid, even though we are gazillionaires.

Ok. Who should get the money ? Not the players, not the coach? The execs should get it? Why?

Most pro athletes are gazillionaires. Most Women’s Pro Soccer players make around the same $$ as a burger flipper at MacDonalds. That is the problem. Their only shot at some real $$ is these world events.

And even then it depends on their media appeal. The stars/goal scorers get the attention, even more so if they're attractive. They'll get some sponsorship or commercial deals, the rest (which is most) won't.

And doesn’t that tell you something? There’s very little commercial interest in the women’s game. It’s unfortunate but a fact.

The one sport I understand the resistance in the US is basketball. Top players risk injury and multi million dollar contracts. Top international
soccer players also risk a lot but most want to play for their country. US Soccer players are taking health risk but less so a financial risk. If they do well and get a Nike deal.out of it they're way ahead of the rest of their teammates

USSF has just been bested by a corporation - Luna Bars (owned by Cliff Bar) just announced they're closing the bonus pay gap for the WNT

LUNA has always been committed to inspiring and championing women. We never got the memo that it’s okay for us to make on average 20% less than men. A difference in pay that’s even worse for women of color. So we are relentless in the fight for equality and raising awareness around the gender pay gap.

The U.S. Women’s National Soccer Team (USWNT) caught our attention in 2016 when they spoke up to demand equality. Although they slayed it in many ways, their fight continues today. There are still many inequities, such as the World Cup roster bonus awarded to any U.S. soccer player - woman or man - named to a World Cup team. We were shocked to learn that, for women, their roster bonus is $31,250 less than the men – for the same work. As you can imagine, this got us pretty fired up. We knew we had to do something. And do it now.

So LUNA Bar is closing the World Cup roster bonus pay gap by giving each of the 23 women named to the 2019 World Cup team the $31,250 difference to make their roster bonus equal to the men’s....

Pure marketing. women get a salary. its apples and oranges when comparing total packages. they should be the same, but is simplistic to pick out things like roster bonuses

This whole thing is going to be a war of perception, not facts. Meanwhile ON we are getting schooled by other federations/leagues as to HOW to build a womens soccer program on a solid foundation

I'm sure it's been said in this thread already, but the women earn less because they bring in far less revenue. Simple math.

Thats not the point tho. once you work for the same employer, doing the same job, you are entitled to the same pay. Thats the rub here. Proving that its the same job. Revenue is irrelevant here.

No one is saying that The Thorns should pay Horan the same as the Timbers pay Diego Valeri

It's not the same job. Women play in the woman's competitions. Men play in the men's competitions. And the men's competitions generate far more revenue.
