    USYS cancels regionals, nationals

    https://www.usyouthsoccer.org/usys-p...-notice-33120/

State Cup might still happen, but there will be no regionals this season.

I thought their reasons made a lot of sense. Even if we are "back to normal" by then, families will be feeling financial impacts and traveling for regionals/nationals isn't an expense many will be able to bear. And some families will very understandably be nervous about getting on an airplane even if we have some sort of all clear by then.

I hope we do get to do a state cup just so we can have some sort of finish to the season. But regionals and nationals being cancelled - meh. (And it's not like any Oregon teams were going to make it to nationals anyway)

Wimbledon just cancelled and it’s in the middle of summer. How in the world will they be able to hold State Cup when Oregon is predicted to reach the height of virus cases on May 6th?

Predicted is the key word here. Nobody really knows.

That's a good question though, how how the predictions held up elsewhere? Honest question because I don't know.

Keep in mind that, just as regionals/nationals were cancelled for reasons aside from when the virus would peak (as a poster noted above), Wimbledon is probably canceled for similar reasons. With an event such as that requiring international travel, and some countries being far more proactive/restrictive than the US, and other countries seeming to be in complete denial there is even a problem, England is likely rightfully concerned about opening up their country to international travelers. This is similar reasoning to why the Olympics were cancelled even though they weren't scheduled until July.

The Oregon state cup is a completely different event (duh). Travel is all by car and relatively short distances. If we are past the shelter at home point in time, there will be a State Cup, if for no other reason than the greedy folks at OYSA don't want to refund all those fees. And if teams opt out because parents aren't comfortable with playing/traveling, OYSA will deny refunds because "we are holding the event as scheduled." Remember, these are the same people who refused to issue any sort of refund or credit when two weeks of games were cancelled last year for weather issues. While at the same time refusing to force clubs to reschedule games. They didn't care if the games were played - they just wanted your money.

That being said, I expect the stay at home order to be extended until the end of May and I expect state cup to be cancelled. And then OYSA will show themselves for the greedy folks they are, because they will fight giving refunds tooth and nail, even though that means some smaller clubs will go out of business.

Moral of the story, the people in charge care more about money than anything else, including the integrity of their league, the sport, and your kids' health.

UTexas and Ohio State both have already cancelled all summer on campus classes. Wish it weren’t so but there will lrealistically be no state cup. Doesn’t much matter exactly when the peak is, it’s the entire range of when people are dying and then getting ready for the second wave to hit. Now, if they find a vaccine or effective medicines and then can produce and administer 350 million doses in the next two months, maybe state cup can be held. I’m praying that we find a way to stop the virus.

Are Timbers going to keep State and Presidents Cup entry fees?

There is talk of refunds to the clubs, but hasn't happened and suspect it would be several weeks out before we know for sure.

There are other items I do not think they/OYSA are refunding - prorated portions of winter, spring premier, winter 2 futsal. Suspect those dollars are spend/gone. Spring non-premier did get in a couple of games, so no idea what they are gong to do there.

They are going to keep and squeeze every penny out of every club in Oregon/SW Washington they possibly can. Forget about the families that could use those refunds or the clubs that need to pay staff. Someone's got to cover the bloated, grotesque upper management of OYSA.
