Hoping they go ahead and cancel, it's an unnecessary risk to get on planes and be in hotel rooms with thousands of other people from all over. It doesn't count for anything anyway and it isn't going to make or break any of the 2003 or 2004 players on the cusp of committing. Plenty of opportunities coming up in May & June.

This tournament like most others is just another way to get parents to part with their money.

If you're an 03 who hasn't committed yet you are not happy about this. ECNL and DA will probably cancel as well. I know it's the right thing to do and life will go on. But explaining that to teenagers, well,....

If you're an 03 without any offers at this point, they weren't going to come from Jeff Cup anyway. If the kid is in ECNL or DA, they will be more than fine. For ECNL, PDA will go on as scheduled as will playoffs and Nationals. Most league games will probably be made up in June, they build in almost a month of down time in between PDA & Playoffs, basically for this reason.

And if this past weekend was any indication, college coaches will be ramping up their league game visits. There were literally over 20 D1 coaches (and good ones) at my kid's games this past weekend, almost like they knew what was coming down the pike.

            NHL has cancelled
            NBA has cancelled
            NCAA has cancelled
            Disney is closed

But these money hungry bastards cannot make a decision to cancel something before Tuesday?? Ridiculous! People have to be able to plan!

Tournament went up to GU14/not a showcase. That’s next weekend. So annoying when people talk and have no clue about this sport and process

Leagues and of course teams are shutting down for several weeks, so no games for coaches to watch. Colleges are shutting down altogether or are completely restricting travel for staff and visits by non students (many are cancelling accepted student events, tours etc). Leagues can try and push back scheduled events but given the complexities of securing locations and all the travel you can't just suddenly say "Oh, we're on for four weeks from now." Different parts of the US will probably see hits at different times and this virus isn't going to just disappear in a few weeks. All we're doing is trying flatten the curve and the spike in cases. For now we just can't plan anything.

Yeah but ECNL & GDA have had their end of the year showcases and playoffs on the books for about 8 months already. Yes for the next few weeks, we'll continue to see a spike in cancellations and panic-but by the end of May-June (you're talking 3 months) things should be up and running again. There is no securing locations involved, they're already secured.

Kiss the ECNL, GDA, and all other youth soccer leagues spring season good bye. It’s all going to end up being canceled, things are going to get worse before they get better - look at Italy!

Doubt it, Fauci quote-“I mean it’s unpredictable but if you look at historically, how these things work, it'll likely be anywhere from a few weeks up to eight weeks” he said, adding that he hopes it’s going to be only two, three or four weeks".

Even at a full 8 weeks, you're only talking mid-May...truncated season maybe, but not cancelled. ECNL had regular season games scheduled through the beginning of May with 3 weeks down before the final ECNL showcase and then another month down before playoffs. Plenty of time to reschedule 4 weekends worth of games, since they usually play 2 games a weekend. GDA season runs through the beginning of June with Summer Showcase and playoffs at the end of June. Because of practice to game ratio structure, it may be a bit more difficult to make up all the games, but GDA already has far more games under their belt to base playoff & showcase structure.
Due to the ******* contest that the 2 leagues are currently engaged in, neither one is going to blink first. You can be sure, if it's possible, both with do whatever they can can to salvage anything that resembles a season.

Then you'd have 8-9 games in a 4 week span with teams that haven't practiced in 2 months. What would be the point of that?

It's actually over the course of about 6 weeks, which isn't really much different than their regular schedule. It's March, my guess is mid-April life goes back to normal...

The players need to stay in shape and stay as sharp with their skills as they can. Everyone is in the same perdicament. There are lots of fitness / running plans available that can be modified for a six week period. We are still allowed to run and train alone.
