I think the OP said they tend to take the bigger kid. Do they do any technical aspects of the tryout or just scrimmage?

We should all know that your pint sized kid will overcome all the athletes out there with your head fakes, cryuffs, maradonas and your 2000 juggles in a row. All those big, genetically over privileged players should bow down, if they can get down that low and worship your kids feet and the Chilean national team, said the enormous world cup winning German team. Your wife keeps saying that sized does not matter and now you believe it.
Out of the 5 smallest teams, 2 went to the knockout stage. What does this mean? Nothing. Size really doesn't matter when it comes to soccer. You can say Germany won this past WC. But what about Brazil with 5, Argentina with 2, Spain had one of the smallest teams ever. Italy is known for being defensive minded but not tall (think Canavaro). The only thing all those countries have in common is that their culture lives and breathes soccer.

well sadly we lost our way on this thread also. back to needing change. All DA's need to be assessed but to be honest they need to also teach coaches and directors how to find the better players. most Da's that are adding 35 to 40 kids there is something wrong. the bottom clubs that are pulling out 2 to 3 wins theres something wrong. so if these are to be the best of the best we need help. so it isn't just size its the full development that is needed. and maybe a different approach to tryout to find the best skill.

I'm sure you watch USA versus Canada didn't you ...jozy and zardes are awesome

its not just size. It really comes down to not really seeing development talent and waiting for that development to take place. we want the here and now only the ones already to go. regardless of size or speed. but long term most of these kids pan out to be average that is want is happening right now again long term means waiting for that talent to grow but we want wins not waiting. so as we see with national teams we will continue to fall behind. and please son;t say were closing the gap with other countries we are not close. maybe a lucky win here and there. until we truly understand development( without the parents of kids on the DA coming on here saying oh your kid didnt make it) we will not grow in the sport. Look at American football, basketball and baseball. they have no problem putting out the best players thats development.

Either way its a fact of life and even European& South American clubs have this issue. The key is still improving player evaluations and development. Second major key, is extending development programs from age 18-21. America is getting there but still a long way to go. Look at how far its come in the past 15 years, give it another 10-15 years.

the biggest issue is yes they see the speed size ect first that is the easy part. but there are no good coaches in club or DA that can spot a kid that can have vision and touch etc because the tryouts are not focused on that. until that changes then we will fall behind. by 13 -14 they have bad habits that will not change. just because they make an academy does not make them a great player. Academies take the wrong kids and by 16-18 the level of play is sloppy at best no skill no vision etc because its not taught and the ones who have it move on to play somewhere else. then every tryout same thing. just wait for next year watch what kendall and weston pick same kids that are bad now and see if they can find even bigger stronger. same old same

US Soccer should allow all clubs in a DA if they have a coach and a team worthy maybe allowing the clubs thats closest DA monitor or help them stick to academy style training. US soccer is missing the good in some of the clubs and rewarding a club that meet the DA status but are loosing players and family that cannot afford or drive to the closest DA program Please US Soccer reach out and fix the system its to ridged and local clubs loose players and good foundational teams with balance with the proper next level help they could be a pround rep for US Soccer for player development.
