Two things wrong here. 1) developing "individual superstars" is a strange way of phrasing teaching players how to play the game properly. 2) This is a glorified rec club that has had parent coaches for a long time. How are they going to pay coaches? It is my understanding that AYSO prohibits them from co-mingling fees between rec and travel, so that would mean a HUGE bump in what families will be paying now!

The DOC is a nice guy, but it is unreasonable to think he will be able to build this program. When you are paying a DOC $55k, what could you possibly pay the coaches and what expense will it be to the parents who are used to paying a nominal fee (and getting nominal results compared to the rest of the clubs in the area). I see a lot of families and kids leaving!

Re point #1, that's more in line with what European pro academies aim for. Their goal is not on producing winning / dominant youth teams but instead on finding and polishing a few gems who will become "individual superstars." So in that sense, he is actually swinging the development philosophy 180 degrees from what it had been as a glorified rec program as you call it with everyone playing, etc.

Now having said that, that is a very ambitious goal for them. While skeptical that they can even come close to that goal, if it is their sincere goal and not just some marketing phrase thrown out there, then I applaud them for being candid about their intention in this soccer landscape where it is frowned upon to openly put individual development over the "good of the team" / "be a team player" / etc. for YOUTH soccer teams whose goal is to produce the highest quality player possible for the later ages. This emphasis on youth TEAMS at the expense of developing and encouraging individuals is a primary reason why we fail at the international level (men's teams). Failure to quality for Olympics, failure to quality for U17 WC, etc, etc.

But sure bet our YNT players come from "powerhouse teams" but teams don't go on to represent their country on the NTs, play at higher levels, etc.--that's the INDIVIDUAL who does that. This obsession with developing "great" youth teams is counterproductive for our ability to compete at the international level. Granted, producing NT players is not the goal for most clubs, but it should be for SOME. Apparently, Boynton is going to give it a shot. Good luck to them!

Thanks for clearing that up Asaf! I also have a problem with the term "individual superstars". What you are then saying is it is okay to train a group of players and take money from the parents so you can isolate, find and polish a "few gems". If it is done properly, you can train those "gems" within a team and group environment. Of course, your lip service will have every parent believing they are that "gem." Your club is no where near equipped to produce a National team player. You don't have the funds, resources, facilities, nor the players surrounding your "future" National team players to challenge them in training sessions. Your club has ZERO history and would be unable to get into top tournaments. Your teams, for the most part, play in second divisions. The video on your club website of the U11 player showing what it takes to become a Knight is laughable. The moves are very, very basic and for an 11-year-old she is way behind other players her age in the area. Like she does in the video, your marketing BS will "fall" short of expectations. Look around the county. TB, FC Florida, Delray and BU all have players who are currently involved in National Team programs for their age groups and some have had players play for the full National team. Proven track records.

Interesting fact: Asaf was/is already firing coaches 2 months before the end of the season. The ethical line was crossed when excuses were made that coaches were committing atrocities severe enough to fire them, but not communicating what those atrocities were. This has created alot of confusion for the kids as well as lost trust of the managament. If you're firing the coaches to replace them with paid coaches from your business, JUST SAY SO! Dont drum up some excuse why a coach is no longer wanted. And make sure your replacements have more credentials than the volunteers.

Additionally, if a "Superstar" is found/created, the Boynton Knights program has always been a feeder to other surrounding clubs. There is no field space and the club does not have the resources to be competitive. The truth is, its a nice club for local residents. But Keith and his puppet, Asaf dont have the management skills to make it more than that.

I hear the Jamaican mafia from West Pines is looking for job as coaches. Go easy on them and give them a corporate discount on the tri-rail pass. I hear they all pay CASH.

Its really amazing to me why anyone would think its possible to build another good travel club in south pb county. This Boynton Knights club has no possible chance of holding on to top players because once they become good enough they will leave and go to the bigger better more experienced clubs in the area. Especially a player who is potentially good enough to play in college. If Asaf was smart he would build a good relationship with the bigger clubs and send the better players to those clubs and keep Boynton as a good recreational developmental club and find a niche. Why do these rinky dink rec clubs all feel the need to try and compete with the big dogs? I just dont get it. This is the problem with travel soccer in Florida.

Agreed! It is all about the almighty $$$$. With the club he had this year, he pulled in almost $60k (most, if not all of it came out the recreational AYSO budget). He could have taken less and instituted some paid coaches and started his plan. Now, with an AYSO program, do you really believe they can go anywhere? They have ZERO history!

I know for a fact that two of the better girls are going to Team Boca next year and one of the best boys in the club is going to Wellington. Rumor has it other are as well and you really cant blame them. If they are good enough players to be at bigger and better clubs than they are being held back not going to them.

The same thing happens every year. They lost a few good players last year. Maybe they'll be able to retain some of them once the new coaching gets established.

I heard there are a lot of players leaving. With the new fees they are going to have to charge, why pay first class fees for a cargo ride? This is nothing more than a grab bag for Asaf and whoever he brings in.

This is a last ditch effort to try and save the club. The parent coaches they had protected their kids. If they go to other clubs, they won't have the same promises of being the superstars because of the preferential treatment they got. They would soon realize how far behind they really are. If they are young enough, the positive side is they can unlearn any bad habits they may have developed under daddy.

Boynton as a club had a good year. Still growing. Lots of talent. Training this year was no different than any other travel club. You people only bash on here because you left and hate to see the club succeed. Go get a life.

If you are looking for a new club. Come watch training any night. You will see good things happening.
