You will actually still have teams in the MLS Youth League in a few years where the DA won't.

so, MLS just wants to make their own league to develop players... I dont have any info,, but it seems DA isn't that good league.

DA U12 won't exist next year so this league is for rising U12 players next season (ie U11). From first glance sure seems to just keep intact the current DA teams (MLS/non-MLS) but my guess is that only one team will be fielded versus the current 2 for U12 DA.

the "MLS youth breakaway" is still just speculation and the fact that the "new" U12 league will have MLS + non-MLS seems to me to indicate it's less likely to actually occur.

converting U12 for MLS from free to pay-to-play (ie pre-academy) saves them 24 x 3500 = 84,000 or effectively 2 coaches. wouldn't be surprised to see U13 go the same route next year.

yup. it's heavily rumored MLS clubs might pull out as nearly as this year, more likely next. They don't like being told what to do by USSF. They don't like having to foot the bill for 4-5 teams when 99% of the players will play in college, not for their first teams. They don't like having play weaker teams that do little for their own player's development.

If MLS clubs pull out BDA is going to have a hard time surviving. Then it's just another league but with more restrictions on players.

But now the U17 teams are split into two (U16 and U17) so they added back a team per club. Savings=zero

that's only been announced for GDA, which as I understand is pay to play across the board. this is BDA.

announcement here and no mention of splitting U16/17, so doubt it.

No it doesn't look like it - which makes the GDA age split look more pathetic.

The problem was teams that were u14 and u15 only this year would not have been ready for a u16/17 team this year. Would have made the competition even worse. Another glaring GDA issue.

No it is a feeble attempt to keep players who wouldn't make the combined team in the system. Thing is, USSF certainly doesn't care about players that aren't strong enough to make the combined teams. It's all about market share.

The combined teams are one of the best things about the gda .
