    Thorns Academy

Rumor has it that the soon to be announced Thorns Academy is going to be set up as a new club run by the Timbers. The Academy teams will play in OYSA Timbers league against all of the TA teams (who will likely have lost some of their best players to the Academy teams). Timbers really have no other option as they were recently denied membership in ECNL and can't get in without having an actual club with a track record of success from U14 to U18. Putting Academy teams in the US Youth Soccer National League, though possible, seems unlikely and if the Academy doesn't actually form teams to play in a league and showcases then it is no different than the Thorns ODP...

They didn't apply for ECNL. Individual clubs do it. Which leads me to believe that your info is nonsense.

      ECNL is US Club

ECNL is run through US Club Soccer.

So? There is nothing near that level in US Youth Soccer.

Timbers didn't apply for ECNL. R.O.I isn't there. They will continue on tract they are on without need for ECNL.

Good luck to ODP teams this week in Az... Hope girls and boys show well and represent our state.

What track are they on? What will be the purpose of the Thorns Academy?

And what if they actually did apply for ECNL? How does that change your argument?

Yes, Ptfc alliance gu14-16 will have their own us club team number. This has been approved by us club and oysa who both have to sign off on it.
Yes, the thorns academy teams will use league games to prepare for ecnl events.
The long term goal is to combine ecnl with the current mls DA Program and create a true elite league that not only gives the best competition but also helps identify talent for college, professional and national teams.
This is the wave of the future and I think it's very exciting and a positive step towards consolidating and developing talent

                God knows Oregon needs this!

An Alliance can apply, but ECNL bids are only offered to clubs

You are aware that ECNL and Academy are the USSF intended structure for youth soccer in America since 2007, aren't you?

Here's the deal.....you can throw the rule books out.....soccer landscape is changing for the better. All organizations are beginning to work together. ECNL is going to grow....there will be a Two Tiered League coming.....most of these ECNL teams that are not that good but get ECNL teams because of their clubs will be moving to Tier 2.....

ECNL and MLS DA are working together to form a true Elite Nationwide League. It doesn't matter if you are US Club/USYS...it simply won't matter. They want this to happen right away, the walls have been knocked down....even with it being fasttracked it still will take time.

by the end of the 2014 MLS Season the MLS wants each one of the clubs to have formed a youth club alliance....right now it stands just over 2/3 of MLS clubs have accomplished that.

Would it shock you that until this year ECNL had a two tiered system and abandoned it? Well of course not because you know everything about ECNL.

What you ARE right about is things are changing....except here in P town.

I guess this means that all the talent on both the boys and girls side will be leaving OPL. Maybe OPL can become a recreational feeder league. Top players from OPL can then move over to TA with the hopes of making the Thorns Academy one day.

if you understood what I was saying....yes, I do know they have two tiers.....but the teams are mixed and matched and not all of the top tiered teams are considered top tiered teams...(look at Oregon clubs beating ECNL Teams)with some more oversight and more quality consolidated MLS Franchisee youth teams you will end up with a true Two Tiered League eventually with more quality.

Doubtful until Academy actually shows that it has good coaching and a top level league to play in. And even then...
