You may be surprised. The girls who typically really shine in high school are those who are solid good. They get awards that they would never get in club or ODP or ECNL or academy. With combined age groups of the academy we are not talking about that many girls. You might be surprised to find that not all of the best players play on significant high school teams. It is a recipe for injury so many will gladly not participate.

Look. Getting wins is very important. The brass at Timbers and parents don't ask what division or bracket you played in, they just want wins. So pipe down and mind your own business.

But the GDA will only need around 60 players so 540 kids can still get the love in the form of HS awards and yes another 60 HS girls will become all world as well, with this departure.

The thing is, the GDA will get only the kids who aren't nearly good enough to win HS recognition. They'll get a few JV2 players, a bunch of rec kids, and a few Timbers delusionals. And they they'll lose badly, every week. Then fold after 1 year when the NWSL folds and there is no more Portland Thorns.

If "many" equals less than 5, you may be correct.

Thorns can't play down. Playing on age in OYSA is embarrassing enough.

That is where you are mistaken. When the same people who run the league run the Thorns, they can do whatever they want. And you Alliance sheep keep sending your best and brightest off to thorns academy. Sort of like the frog in the pot of boiling water. You don't even realize what is happening to you until your club's B team all of a sudden has to play against the thorns all stars. You have no one to blame but yourselves.

What's so ironic is you just outlined what is happening to the two local clubs FC & CU (B team) when they have to play the Surf (Thorn all-stars) the problem with that situation is the lack of common sense shown by the DOC's at CU and FC PDX to join the mighty ECNL (OYSA) and you also like the frog in the pot of boiling water, as you put your trust into your club leadership who didn't show any consideration for your checkbook and your actual level of play vs the nation's better clubs. The ECNL just took 10 teams from Oregon and threw out a net far too big for the talent level provided by these two local clubs. This was a convenient way to 'run away' from the OYSA. The DOC's said let's try this route out of pure spite & pride and with very little reason or real wisdom behind this impulsive sadistic leap. You actually have a club to blame, and the ECNL on the first go around--now you have no one else to blame but yourselves.

Thorns will not play on age level. That dumb. Playing up to U19 and U17.

Wow. This makes absolutely no sense. Are you Trump's speechwriter?

I said wow as well, and to think Trump will be the next president. Amazing stuff.

After seeing the results of the Beaverton Cup, the Thorns playing up is out of the question. They are going to need a lot more talent then the 2nd stringers they have now.

Wins. That's what parents want. I vote sandbag and play on age level.

Don't you have to actually be good to sandbag?
