FC Portland 2001 ECNL kept saying they were the best and entered OYSA to prove it. Finished fourth place and got bounced out of state cup.

Too four in OYSA is pretty good.

Isn't that the team that the Salem Superstar joined only to find she couldn't make the starting lineup? And now she's fled back to OYSA where she at least gets a few minutes of PT. Says a lot about Timbers development...

The question is why don't they chose to develop the kids that start out there instead of recruiting TA players?

I am a little confused by where you are going with this. It seemed strange that an ECNL team would play in state during their season so I looked up both state cup and spring league. It looks like both CU and FC fielded reserve teams in spring and state cup. I would think in that case the rosters would be different.

I assume that the point of repeating the same thing over and over again is to attempt to denigrate the ECNL clubs in front on an age group two removed.

It seems like this best belongs in the old 01 thread.

No need to play local teams as they offer no real competition. And numbers at FC have doubled over the last 5 years. The product clearly sells itself. No recruiting needed.

Yes, but you don't understand that dropping the "pre" before the ECNL makes the competition powerless to stand in their way, even if it the same group of kids. The true ECNL patch is like Superman's cape and Samson's hair rolled into one. There is no kryptonite for that. Also, that is the age when all the training secrets are revealed, grasshopper.

Why bother going back up to Redmond when you're already up 18-0 after 3 games? Waste of time and money (the entry fee is a very small part of the total cost, as anyone whose team actually travels would know). Instead, they are scrimmaging some HS varsity teams like Sunset and Jesuit (and winning) to prepare for the ECNL tourney in a few weeks.

Sounds like parents on the High School thread are calling BS on these FCP 03G scrimmage wins against the varsity girls..

Remember, this was the cover story for dropping NWCL. Apparently no one at the club looked at their ECNL schedule before booking the tournament. And even though they could continue to play, they needed the next month to prep for ECNL by scrimmaging the high school teams named above. The truth was fear of being exposed and/or poor leadership and planning. Imagine what prospective parents and players are being told in private when there is no one to call out the BS. Note to FC: New scam processes needed for the internet age.
