Isn't till 5 minutes and 2 minutes left in game - he subs in remaining 9 bench players who are seniors (all 4 year veterans of the program). Oh and team had a lead of 2-0 into the half and 3-0 into last 20 minutes. And the game was meaningless for seeding and conference finals. Full disclosure, my kid is neither a senior or a starter, and I get coaching is not for the faint of heart - parents are a pain, teachers a pain, ADs and students are a pain, but some times there are self-inflected wounds. Come on man!

Money
The reason coaches are being jumped these days is because of the culture...what it has become. When I was a kid, to play a full season of baseball it cost my parents $17 plus an additional $10 for one uniform we wore. Our coach was a parent, not paid, and we respected him, and never challenged him or hesitated when he said run or slide.
In contrast, parents today are being told the reason they're having to pay $2k a season for kickball is because of coaching fees and misc. But it doesn't end there. Mega DA and ECNL clubs have their uniform contracts, every 2 years were dumping $500 on 5 different shirts, 2 different shorts, 3 different socks. Then there's the tournament fees, coach's travel fees, and your travel, hotel expenses. At the end of a soccer season you're looking at almost $4k in expenses...and you suddenly realize your league is poaching kids from California to take your kid's position at ECNL nationals.
This is what we have these days. And when coaches, leagues don't deliver, parents get angry.

that's the other BIG problem. You have kids that should have been let go that are carried along and never play. Then you have a pile of seniors that are just clogging up bench. These kids should play on senior night? please

I have coached very many Senior Night games.
The Senior Night game is about recognizing the "sweat equity" as a previous poster called it, and for their loyalty to the program, regardless of how much or little they have played.
It's about a proper pre-game ceremony calling out these kids and being very positive towards their contributions.
You put them all on the field when the whistle blows and then, as soon as you must, you reset your lineup on the field to the one you would normally play to beat that opponent.
Senior Night is always much better when you actually win the game too. The Seniors that play for me understand that and they are the last ones to complain about playing time over that game. Maybe their parents don't, but the players get it.

Every senior who makes it to this game deserves to play in it. Even if just for a few minutes. To not play a senior on Senior Night is a reprehensible action on the part of a coach.
A coach who can't manage a game well enough to give a deep reserved senior 5-10 minutes of playing time shouldn't be coaching at this level.

What if it’s a game you need? Are you willing to give up a goal?
