    Be Patient

Coach will have some time, she is going to have a lot of turnover this year with a big senior class leaving. The two that left for greener pastures were good but would have made little difference this season. MN abandoned the team the year before he left and did not put a pipeline in place. As for foreign players - very hit or miss. Coaches only really recruit by video. US has much more talent. A program like RI should continue to develop a pipeline to NJ and Mass. RI has never been known as a talent rich state for soccer mostly because of its size and URI is not in a position to bring in a 4 or 5 star recruit at this point anyway. She knows what to do - establish a system and recruit players into it, but easier said than done. In fairness to MJ, no way was this team going to work out this season.

P.S. for those who don’t know - D1 scholarships are a one year commitment for the player and the school. I know that MN had free reign to cut players in his first season or two but generally had to renew kids he recruited. Scholarships are generally a progression based on development at the college level. They are also integrated with academic money. My daughter no longer plays for URI but did graduate and enjoyed her time at the school - and it paid off in the work world, which is what this is all about for the players.

Please stop mentioning M. N is has been gone for two seasons. That ship has sailed, and their is a new sheriff in town. Unfortunately she can’t get the job done yet! Maybe in 2-3 years after a complete rehaul things will get better.

MN still relevant until next season as his last recruiting class represents current teams most experienced players and the foundation that the coach needs to build on. Let’s face it, recruiting kids for soccer is at best a crap shoot. You meet the kids at 15/16, sign them at 17/18 and hope they get to college as the player you expected them to be. Then, you have to hope that they still love the game as much as they did when you signed and recruited them give. All of the work and distractions that come from playing soccer as a job. More many, the goal was to get signed. Scholarships are something parents care about for the most part not what the kids care about. So, MN legacy continues for one more year but wanes. MJ has a big class coming in and a lot of inexperienced players to develop. The school will likely give her the time.

It’s the second lowest paying job in the A10. Only St Bonaventure pays less. She was a terrible hire but the salary was a match
