    DA Pay-to-Play Showdown: MV v IMG !!

Official Announcement from Montverde Academy/"S.I.M.A" marketing department:

All eyes in the soccer community in Florida and the nation will be focused on the matches this weekend on the beautifully manicured turf at Montverde Academy, as our SIMA "Big Purple" teams* take on our bitter in-state rival, IMG Academy in USSDA soccer action !!

C'mon out to our campus on Saturday and watch some exciting matches and listen to a sales pitch for our incredibly successful SIMA program that never, ever loses and makes everybody a pro ! Please register at the security gate to get your glossy Montverde brochure and get connected with one of our admissions specialists to sign up for 2018-19 season and start paying Montverde tuition soon !

Unfortunately, due some US Soccer roster rules that we do not fully understand yet, we will not be able to showcase all of our 60+ SIMA student-athletes. Also, some of the players wearing purple will be legacy players from the ocda -- and we apologize in advance that those ocda players may not be adhering to our strict SIMA rules on hairstyles, tattoos, piercings, spitting, snot-rockets, cursing, and completion of homework assignments. But rest assured, by 2018-19 we will have fully Super-SIMA-ized the program and will certainly go undefeated with the help of your tuition dollars and some new recruits from around the globe !!!

GO SIMA !! BEAT IMG !!

*formerly known as orlando city development academy, but we don't like to mention that

Well it seems the legacy players made SIMA a true bargain this weekend. Lets see if IMG can capitalize in the off-season After all 22,000 should defiantly buy you better players Or at least afford you more scholarship money.

I took my kid out to tryouts at Barca Academy last weekend. Great all soccer facility and school on campus. Also in DA and attracting top players and already 4 national kids. Waiting on our offer in next week or 2 for next year to see if even a option.

Very remote location -- not just far away from FL but far from any city or airport.

Older teams were recruited decently and have had good results.

It's a shame that FL kids have to go that far away for a top DA opportunity. OC has squandered a promising program by dumping it off on MV

Yes, not just FL kids, but very good players from the Tampa Bay area. Unlike greedy IMG with all that new construction to pay for, and corporate executives worried about quarterly numbers rather than long term brand and player development, Barca will actually work with poor families of older players on tuition. I know of one player from a poor family in Sarasota/Bradenton area that plays there now, and is a solid contributor.

IMG absolutely will not give a scholarship to an older (high school aged) player, unless they are already on national team (in which case you'd be playing somewhere far better than IMG).

This is why the talent level at IMG is not good. You get rich kid players not talent with this model.

What kind of price tag did Barca come with?

They said around 50k for next year. Room board and actually a necent school from what I saw. School is a prep school run by ASU. Facility and fields are unreal. I actually like the fact that it is in middle of nowhere. My kid Is not old enough to drive yet anyway but even kids that are are not allowed to. Evidently, interest for next year is very high and they even added more tryout dates because of that. First year was somewhat of a learning year with next year really going for all top level teams and players. They even have pre academy teams which of course is a real moneymaker.

Just looked it up. Not bad location, 45 minutes from Phoenix airport.

Its the same people who were running the Real Salt Lake Academy for the past several years - except the RSL coaches who all went to Utah. They have one of the La Masia coaches on staff there directing the other new coaches brought in. They know what they are doing, have been doing it a long time, and unlike IMG with several thousand students this place has only a couple hundred.

It is very competitive to get in (unlike IMG who takes anyone). Last year more than 350 kids tried out for the U19 team, they took about 20. It is not uncommon to try out more than once. One kid that I know tried out, didnt make it, tried out again, made the pre-academy team, tried out a third time finally making it on the academy team.

Not only this kid playing for a better academy team than the one in his home town, but there is another local kid (Sar/Bradenton area where IMG is located) that is on the Top Drawer Top 150 list who is not even in the academy system because IMG is too greedy to integrate him (his parents are also poor) and Clearwater is too stupid to even look at him in a tryout. This tells you everything you need to know about Tampa Bay area DA - and why they are bottom table - year after year, its pathetic.

Yes and the facility is remote within the general Casa Grande area which is good for the kids since none are allowed to drive - no outside interference, no temptations, no girlfriend complications, no local high school kid bad influences, drugs/alcohol etc - they just focus on school and soccer. Then every single one - 100% of them - go on to college with at least some type of financial aid or scholarship, or sometimes pro.
