A good Week for Westside/Eastside and Timbers

Man, this is got to be the best week in awhile for this crew.

First, the arch-nemesis is out at THUSC. Tom has been a constant thorn (no pun intended) in the Timbers/Alliance side for years, whether fighting over league stuff, bringing ECNL to Oregon, all but destroying Westside's girls program, or just being his normal pain in the butt self. AND NOW HE IS GONE! Must be dancing over at the Westside office.

2nd, Thorns Academy gets its press release regarding USSDA. This "experiment" has been been a failure to-date but gets some much needed winds in it sails.

Long-term we will see what happens, but boy oh boy is it a good day in Alliance land!

THUSC did what it needed to do for the long-term. Short-term, sure Cony and Gavin get to celebrate the demise of Tom. Long-term, it was the right decision for the club.

Some good stuff is coming from ECNL in the coming months, but yes that was nice press release.

What happened to Tom? Did he go to another club?

Heard the good stuff coming from the ECNL was directive to fold up shop for it's league structure.

Due in no small part to the rapture of it's top tier clubs to the USGDA.

That is great news for the parents who won't have to spend thousands of dollars on playing teams all over the country that are equivalent to the teams in their local market.

        There is a GOD!!

Is he really gone from THUSC? Or released from USCS?

Doesn't this just mean that the THUSC and Crossfire teams will have the option to return to the old way of playing in the USYS OYSA league and state cup and tournaments as well as US Club tournaments?

Their teams still get to do regular college showcases.

Their players can also, I suppose, can try out next May for the GDA or ask for individual tryouts now. People can make fun of the Thorns DA but who knows, anything can happen, and having the support of the Portland Thorns staff and players Tobin Heath and Allie Long couldn't hurt the program moving forward.

Are there supplemental tryouts planned just in case? Don't most clubs hold supplemental tryouts for high school-aged players after Fall League?

Yep, so they can pay twice as much to play teams even farther afield that aren't even the equivalent to OYSA. Good scam Thorns!

Thorns need to hold supplementals as they didn't get any talent to show up for their primary tryouts.

This is the Good Stuff coming from the ECNL?

You make a fair point about the potentially decimated ECNL leagues after the USDA starts up and if any teams stay in this type of league, they will indeed have to pay twice as much to play clubs even further apart than the pre-USDA rapture. It's true also this residual ECNL standard if they decide to continue is probably equivalent to the higher tiered OYSA Teams. GOOD JOB! PORTLAND THORNS! You have brought reality home.

Thorns won't be able to bring anything home. Certainly not wins. Couldn't do it in OYSA when the cost was low enough and the restrictions soft enough that they could get a few decent players. In the DA they won't get anybody but "C" level delusionals. Not going to be pretty.

The good news is that it won't be any worse than PDX ECNL. LMAO

You are an deluding yourself. Each DA team will be comprised of only the best of 4 ECNL teams worth of players, with a smattering of the few good alliance players in each group. However terrible their performance and results, it will be better than the diluted garbage that has been Oregon ECNL.

                          ECNL is dead.
