Sucks that the girls have to pay all those thousands of dollars just to play in OYSA. Hopefully they are not going to play in the Silver bracket at the Vegas Cup again, that was pretty demeaning.

Why isn't it free for girls like it is for boys? How can they get away with this with the US women's soccer team lawsuit hanging out there.

You charge what the market will bear. There are no laws dictating the cost of youth soccer.

My understanding is that this is not about high level competition. It is about raising funds to support the boys side.

They will play in the OYSA which doesn't cost the Timbers anything. They don't have admin costs like most clubs do. So they are probably raising $40,000 from the girls they can apply toward the boys travel expenses. It works out well for the Timbers and allows the boys to play and travel for free.

This is the way it's done. Girls programs are used to pay for boys programs. It's nothing new.

The only reason it's free for boys is because it's required by MLS to retain the players Homegrown rights. There is no money in girls soccer so parents have to pay.

Same as OR Odp- B team girls will sign up & happily pay up so parents can say my dd is "elite". Same with Ecnl. Same with club soccer in general in Oregon. Oregon produces at most less than one truly elite girl per year. The rest are paying thousands upon thousands for the dream. Up to parents how they spend their money though so have at it.
