    thorns academy question

They don't really play in the OYSA do they? Why? No offense but that doesn't seem very high level.

It's a fine level for them. They finished mid pack last year. That tells me it's a good fit.

The younger team played up a year in OYSA and finished mid pack. Parents very proud of this extra special challenge. More tellingly though is both teams results playing on age in a completely watered down FWRL. They finished 4th (16's) and 5th (18's). Given those results they don't belong in any other league than OYSA. And the poor showing by the 01 and 02 ODP teams in Friendship Cup is further proof of this.

Sounds on par with the local ECNL teams. They finished mid pack in a completely watered down NWCL.

I think the only teams they lost to were other ECNL teams.

                  Yes, they do.

And finished mid pack. They did FWRL year before last and did norribly. They then played in the Vegas Cup in the silver division and crushed.

It's about development, not about wins.

My understanding is that this is not about high level competition. It is about raising funds to support the boys side.

They will play in the OYSA which doesn't cost the Timbers anything. They don't have admin costs like most clubs do. So they are probably raising $40,000 from the girls they can apply toward the boys travel expenses. It works out well for the Timbers and allows the boys to play and travel for free.

Oh, so Pac NW is an ECNL team? Got it.

                          That's terrific if true.

The difference is one local team won NWCL

Why isn't it free for girls like it is for boys? How can they get away with this with the US women's soccer team lawsuit hanging out there.
