Wait, it's actually a Washington 02 team so must be judged in WA state rankings. Doubt it's best is WA. Much further down in rankings vs much tougher WA teams. Doing pretty darn good vs what's left of watered down OregonYSA, I'll give you that.

It is weird that Washington teams can be Oregon State Cup champs but they don’t make the rules.

Top players doing wa state cup are better then the top players in Oregon period. Just look at what happened when cu Ecnl played on age wa teams that wash t already played. Or the age up wa teams wash t already beat that handled fc Portland 02 Ecnl team a few months ago.

WT FC is so successful at 2002 because they made smart choices at the birth year change. Yes, WT FCs 2001 team went from a top team to bottom of the barrel without the 02s but it allows the 2002s to compete in and out of state, which keeps the top players at home.
Now WT FC 02s just have to hope that Salem and Eugene don't wise up and that GDA & Ecnl hold most of the other areas top players and keep them out of OYSA. In the meantime, WT FC is winning at soccer chess.

WT FC smartly made one strong team at 2002 instead of keeping their 01 & 02 teams together at the birth year change. This helped them be better out of Oregon and helps them stay competitive vs other WA state teams. Hence, top players stayed put. Other Alliance top 02s are either gone to Ecnl/academy or playing up in 01s or 99s. This makes a strong WT FC 02s look even stronger. The other Alliance teams all got weaker due to attempting to keep old teams together instead of making new top teams based on birth year. This led to even more top players leaving for non-oysa teams. If the other Alliance clubs put together their best possible 02 teams, they'd be stronger too. I bet Salem's 02 team would be the best and Eugene's would equal WT FC for 2nd. Instead, Salem has a first rate 01 team (with only a few actual 01s)) a mid-pack 03 team and no 02 team at all. Eugene has 2nd place '01, '02 & '03 teams. Medford has the best 02s playing on their 1st place 99 team and Bend has their best 02s playing on their 99 team as well. Westside and Eastside 02s are trying to hang in there after sustaining mega losses of their top players.
