Who cares. School choice exists. If soccer attracts a kid to a school, so what? How is that less legitimate than choosing a school for its academic program? Frankly, it's good that talented players have an opportunity to play with teammates of equal caliber, rather than languishing on a team bereft of talent.

44.2 A school shall be deemed to be in violation of the rule against recruitment if a representative or agent of the school or any group or individual associated with athletic programs of that school approaches an athlete and directly or indirectly attempts to persuade or induce the athlete to enroll in, or transfer to, that school.

Wonder how many times that rule has been broken? As a public school, when half of your roster is coming from outside the district, something just ain't right. Why should all of these outsiders get to take spots from girls who are actually from Whitman/Hanson?

That's what club is for. School choice was meant for academic reasons. Not athletic. And since when do people transfer to W-H for academic reasons.

There are reasons other than academic that factor into which school a parent chooses. If WH's academics are subpar, compared to a tranfer's local school, and a parent wants to sacrifice education for soccer, it's their choice. HS soccer sucks for the most part, who cares. If the parents value having their kid relive faded memories of HS games, while washing dishes at Chiles, so be it.

There was a girl in an adjacent town that was being bullied unmercifully. Parents couldn't afford a private school. What choice would they have if school choice wasn't an option? There are literally dozens of choice schools. Should we get rid of the metco system as well. I've seen some D1 football prospects from inner city housing playing for some pretty affluent towns. There's a reason for all these programs wether it's arts, academics or athletics. Jmo

A much better response than the snarky one I gave. Thanks.

Nice story to validate but too bad that's not the case in Whitman Hanson

And the inner city kids are part of the metco program, also nothing to do with WH

Exactly my point. These things happen elsewhere and in many sports yet there seems to be one target of all of the recruiting nonsense. Wh had 7 league all stars....only one was not from either Whitman or Hanson

Thanks for the clarification DF. We know you have more coming in this season. Ironic many of the girls that come in happen to be the areas top players.

Earlier post asked about OA. Very strong this season.

What a bunch of crap. Isn't OA losing their goalie(stars ecnl)to another school?
