I'm afraid you don't have a clue, but, I'll ask these questions anyway. What are the qualifications of the boarding school coach? What is the level of the other players on the boarding school? What boarding school is training 1-2 days a week? In season or out? And do you think training 90 to 180 minutes a week is enough for a so called "elite" player, regardless of the age?

Playing/training 4 days a week is about right for a 13 yo. Throw in some cardio or another sports activity on off days and I'd say that is about perfect for that age.

Guess what...it's not your problem. It doesn't have to make sense to anyone but the kid, family, and the club.

Your thinking is exactly why the US NTs suck. It's all about me, me and mine.

You've got to be kidding if you really think that schedule, 1 to 2 days with the school team, 1 day of practice and a game with the club team is what develops "elite" players.

OK, international soccer guru. Why don't you tell her what classes to sign up in the fall too. Maybe you can contact the family and be their agent.

And, be honest, do you really have a burning disappointment about the national teams that keeps you up at night??? The new favorite argument on this forum, whether in this kind of case or DAP or whatever, is some ridiculous, far-fetched link to the national team.

Here's the deal with youth soccer in America. People like to consider their kids "elite" and see them playing on teams that win state cup, regionals and the big name tournaments. They are willing to pay the money and do the travel, but what they are unwilling to do is the hard, sometimes monotonous day to day work. That's one of the reasons that the US women's teams are being outpaced by Asian teams, where soccer is also relatively new to their cultures as it is here in the US.

You nailed it. We should go back to 1970s Eastern European gulag training. We'll model after the gymnastics training programs.

And you've got to be kidding if you think that a 13 year old who plays soccer more than 4-5 days a week will make her elite. Anything more than that in a formal setting is counter productive at that age and unhealthy. Playing pick up, juggling in the backyard on off days, messing around is OK for sure, but you can't make a NT player by forcing soccer down her throat 7 days a week. You are delusional if you think so and that in the long run it is actual detrimental to do so.
