Outscored 9-1 in two games. How in the hell did Panama qualify for the World Cup? Or at least if you do qualify . . . don't forget to show up for the actual WC games!

And to think that in the US's last 3 meeting with them they drew twice. Horrible.

Look, we suck. That's all there is to it. There is no magic here - Panama is a better team than the U.S. is, that's it. Look at a team like Mexico and how hard it plays against every team - we just can't must that type of effort.

Everyone acts like this is surprising. The reason for the DAs was to address the horrible job that the existing "college" system did in the US to create elite players. You can argue whether the DA was run properly but the idea that is wasn't needed . . . is hilarious. The US didn't produce any elite players for over a decade. The current national team has either talent that is old or young and virtually nothing but a few serviceable players in between.
The good news is that there is a lot of young talent coming up these days. Either the DA system is finally working or it's just dumb luck but the next cycle should field a more talented team. The downside is that it will still be awfully young with most of the talent being U19-U23. So to be honest it's probably the 2026 World Cup that the US fans should be expecting bigger things from. The success in the U20s and U17s is hopefully a harbinger for the future. People on here love to bash the English because of their national team struggles even as their development system improved and their younger teams had a lot of international success. What you see now is that the English should be very strong for the next few cycles. In fact, despite this year's English team doing well, they too should have a deeper and more experienced team full of talent for the 2022 and 2026 cycles.
The only problem I see is on the women's side where are these arrogant dopes who somehow don't recognize the new landscape on that side of the ball. While we virtually monopolized the women's soccer market because of college for decades, other countries are starting to catch and even surpass us because of their investment and PROFESSIONAL development for players. Our college based system versus the European professional model didn't work for men and if that's what ends up happening on the women's side . . . prepare for disappointment and mediocrity there too.
