    Winter Futsal

    Starting a thread devoted futsal.

    Some observations on first week:

    1. Coordination with cups (founders/president) and fall league has been nice; way fewer conflicts and reschedules than we have dealt with in the past.
    2. Divisions are deeper than in the old days (separate Portland Futsal/Rose City Leagues).
    3. Some of the refs don't know the rules. The back pass rules they are applying in youth is getting missed left and right. In one game refs didn't know heading was allowed at that age. Stop clock in last 3 minutes isn't being applied.
    4. Player card thing was confusing for many teams initially, but they were flexible (many refs allowed regular OYSA cards to be used).

    1. Having OYSA run things probably helps here.
    2. Having OYSA run things helps here too.
    3. Reffing has been inconsistent--at my DS's youth game this morning (non-OYSA), the ref was terrible.
    4. If your child is playing in an OYSA futsal league, then an OYSA player card is all that is needed (and is mandatory)--house cards are not necessary or helpful. If playing in a non-OYSA league, consult the league rules for what ID is required.

Have they changed affinity - the images with instructions for entering scores does not seem to match what i am seeing after logging in?

Is there a non-oysa futsal league going on? I am not sure the refs had been bad in oysa futsal; my gripe is they are not familar with the oysa futsal rules.

          1. Many changes have happened so far.
So Many moving parts. Par for the course.

          3. Refs seemed really young at our venue.

          5. We didn't go to our first game last weekend since it was a 25 mile drive to go play ourselves. Which sucked.

          6. Player card is a hassle as we need fill in players due to the holiday season.

Should have been clearer on #1 - the changes are on OYSA not on us to make to get around other leagues/cups - that is a nice change.

It is the older oysa refs that seem to be figuring out the futsal rules - hope it gets better!

They should just allow regular cards for whole season - otherwise this is going to be a pain!

Month in and it still sucks. Organization is horrible and scheduling is a nightmare.

The wrong teams playing up and being used like training cones and some teams should be playing down an age group.

What a waste of time, has and money

We have really enjoyed the driving and scenery in Multnomah, Washington & Clackamas County highways and congested byways.

Just wish they would have the refs read the rule books - like they asked coaches to.

Otherwise, my kids are having fun.

Being a ref is a thankless job. Very hard to recruit. So the overall quality is not outstanding. There are some very good ones, but that’s not the norm.

The issue isn't that they are fundamentally bad refs, just some appear unfamiliar with the futsal rules they made coaches read.

For example, very few of them are aware of the "goalie can touch the ball only once per possession" rule. They also sometimes allow the goalie to kick it in.

Small items, just if you are going to post rules and have coaches abide by them, then refs should be familiar/call them.

Any coach that allows their GK to punt the ball in futsal should not be allowed to coach.

I've never seen a goalie punt in futsal without it being whistled. I do see refs allowing keepers to drop the ball to their feet, which is not legal if the ball is restarted after going over the end line.

Not everyone is completely versed in the rules of futsal.
