I will give you that for the very first camp or two at u14 or u15 (depending on the cycle) the coaches rely heavily on recommendations from programs and coaches they trust and have delivered NT caliber players to US Soccer before. If the players show up at camp and are not at the required level...you won't see them called back in.
That's why this first 05 camp has 59 players. That's a huge camp. It's an opportunity to be seen. It's just a starting point for the age group's player pool.
After that first camp or two...the scouts have seen the age group much more, evaluated players at games and start to dial in on payers they want and are playing at the level they want. Camps get smaller. Then rosters are selected.
Coaches or DOCs that are recommending players to camps that don't deserve to be there will stop being asked for their opinion.
