What is the training session? Most clubs have "Technical Training" sessions or "Skills" sessions that are not team based. Usually a large group of players in an age band move from station to station working on individual technical development.

Most clubs have at least one of these technical sessions where everyone from the club can participate and then two team training sessions which are with the individual teams every week. Some times due to conflicts or coach availability, teams may double up, but it isn't the norm for team practices to have 2 teams together the whole time.

At the younger ages, 20-30 kids for one coach is too many to coach and develop properly. A better model is to run 60 minute training session with 1 coach per 12-20 depending on age, and then combine with another team for a scrimmage for the last 30 minutes. As others have said, it is either a cost-savings thing or a lack of available coaches if they are practicing in large groups regularly, and that is not good for individual development of the player. Not much different than school classroom sizes: 1 teacher, 15 kids. Not so bad. 1 teacher 30 kids, things slip and most are ignored.

"most" I think is generous. When it does happen it's usually one session a week general, the other 2-3 team specific. Doing any more than one is either financially driven (won't hire enough coaches) or laziness. GKS should be getting at least 2 GK specific trainings a week and 1-2 with the team.

SSS is all large groups all the time. Never just team together with a coach. AP use to get more individual team time with coach but not anymore. Will be interesting to see what happens in the coming years with this new pool model for the top teams.

That is definitely not the model for DA. They expect four sessions a week for the top players and if 1 of the 4 is fitness or group that's ok. Practicing with B and C teams might be good for those players, but it isn't good for the A team players.

Are they practicing 4 days a week? Some clubs don't, but curious if SSS is making that commitment

Kids are going to leave before they're even eligible for DA because no one is connected to a team. 8 and 9 year olds should have teammates because that helps foster a love of the game. Changing up teams every week and every tournament is confusing for that age.

I don't know what SSS calls it's teams anymore, but it seems the "Group" training thing is with AP and Elite teams, which would be NEP/NPL, not DA if I am guessing correctly.

Might be true of 2006 and older, but not true of 2007 and younger.

                          Oh sorry, 2008 & 2007 “pre-DA.”

I sense excuses for a coming loss. You Can't have it both ways. If fall is meaningless , spring is too. NEFC has no control over their top players. If they don't give them waivers they leave. As simple as that. Are you saying they rather see them playing HS than fall DA? BTW for playoffs all the records count.

Control? You’re right. Sss has the lock in that. Stay in line, pay up, and don’t ask questions.

Don’t tell Mass Youth Soccer staff coaches that! Was at an event sponsored by MYSA and one of their coaches told the attendees that SSS was a model program for local clubs. I was shocked to hear a state association official market for a for-profit club. He could have named any number of non-profit rec clubs that aren’t focused on competitive club play or making money as great models. Shows you how bad things have become in the US soccer universe.
