And that will be the end of playing the ball out of the back..
stupid idea from beginning
Re: Norwich 3rd goal
Even the best struggle to play under pressure, not sure who thinks it’s a good idea for young players
It has been Pep at the forefront of this style
It will be interesting to see if he changes tactics...big implications for youth soccer as many worship at Pep’s altar
Neither tactic is 100% right all the time. How about if we teach keepers to recognize when the other team has high pressure and play it over them? Or maybe if the other team is sitting back with one forward pressing, you try to build to take advantage of the numbers up situation? That would make more sense than artificially creating a non-pressure situation with build out lines.

yes, 1000x this. and defenders need to realize if the GK doesn't recognize pressure, *they* need to hurry the clear. one would have thought the rule change would have made this easier, but oddly, it seems worse -- my guess is that it's more obvious now when a GK will play out of the back, whereas when the Ds played outside the 18 all the time it was a ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ .

Like all rule changes in all sports, over time teams adjust. But, you have to learn how to do something before you can learn how to adjust away from it. Better to have the ability to play short if there is no pressure, than to not know how. I know our club always advocated playing from the back, but as teams press more, they've been up front that we will start to play more intermediate/long range balls if that's where the space is. If they don't press so high, then we'll go short again.
One would think that's common sense, but apparently not.

Its not, because Pep and his acolytes have built entire squads to showcase the style..its not WORKING.
Playing short is a tactic all over the pitch, it does not need to be taught expressly for defenders.
Are players so stupid or blind they can’t sense or see pressure, regardless of being a keeper, defender or striker.
Whatever happened to “man on”?
Yes, because in a game that is decided more times than not by a single mistake that leads to a goal, why risk it?
And please spare us the “boot it” comments...it’s a bit more complicated than that
Again, you can do something correct a thousand times and win dozens and dozens of games as a result. You then turn to the one it doesn't and think one should change an entire mindset?

LOL
Sorry, mate, but the game is won by putting the ball in the back of their net.
Not by giving them an opportunity to knock it into yours.
2 fast strikers vs uncomfortable defenders and keeper...no contest
And that is the scenario for 99.9% of the games played
