The United tryouts are going to be interesting this year. A lot of ‘07 talent in the pipeline.

Feels like every year there's a U12 Ginga dad ranting about how great their kid's team is. Then they eat crow. I think one Ginga dad came back and admitted how wrong he was

Same nonsense
These threads go the exact same way every time. Yes people realize the ecnl teams and the one DA team are likely the best 3 teams in CT at most age groups. But do you geniuses really think there are no other places to play soccer in the state. Ginga, Sporting and other clubs have lots of solid players and lots of competitive teams. Their teams are certainly as good as any cfc branch team or the garbage Oakwood b teams. Most kids will play high school or maybe some college. None of this club sports **** matters in the scheme of things unless your kid is having fun. Close to 0 percent of your encl and da kids will ever make a dollar off of playing soccer. It will come to an end for all the ct. Kids around the same time. Get off the high horse. Its all just kids sports so stop fooling yourself into thinking ecnl is your kids path to the national team.

Above is true but only applies to teams 14+; that's when the "top" teams solidify. Until then there's many teams that are strong. There's clubs that do a solid job of training players and they aren't all the biggies. Plenty of players will get good training there without driving all over the tri state area playing in different leagues. If they played each other more often they would give each other some good games. But between 12-14 or so most of the better talent goes through the soccer funnel and lands on an ECNL or GDA team. All it takes is a few of the better players leaving a team to move up the ladder to throw a formerly solid team, like a Ginga team, into disarray. In middle school you also get players dropping out of the sport to pursue other interests, puberty accelerating for some, not others. Some clubs that have good middle school aged teams don't even have enough to field HS aged teams. Yes there are some very good players that stay in NPL or EDP or Alphabet League XYZ but there aren't many of them. They will have a tougher time getting recruited - it can be done but the rate of success and quality of soccer programs can't match ECNL or DA.
The problem is the parents going on and on about these NEGDL teams being "the best" haven't hit that point yet. They'll see soon enough. They haven't even seen what the national stage looks like. that is vital because being "the best" in CT means nothing when it comes to a broader stage like NT selections or college recruiting. And don't even get me started on the NE GDA - if it's even around in two years I'd be surprised. So U12 parents, enjoy the times but don't get too wrapped up in it. Keep an eye out for burnout and waning interest. Let your player drive the bus down their own soccer path.
