Almost no one is planning on a pro career, and if you are college is not where you go. A few get picked up once in college the first year or two but that's it. Everyone else is there to play a few years and get an education.

If you played academy and you're going dIII it probably means you were not very good

Which applies to plenty of DA kids, including @ OW and BS.

No, it may means that you are putting an education in front of the sport or that school gave the best financial aid package, or the kid wants to stay close to home.. get a clue.

Some quality players who can readily play D1 don't want a D1 commitment. D3 is a big commitment but not the same level. Some kids don't want the big D1 campus environment. Many D1 schools are fine academically but not the same level as D3 (and there's D3 schools that aren't Amherst or U Chicago too). There's many reasons why DA/MLS may end up at a D3 school

That said, there's plenty of lesser talent at the D3 level, with many more players from non DA clubs - EDP etc. There are 100 fewer men's D1 programs out there and internationals take a lot of the roster spots. That means more DA players may have to seek out other divisions because they can't compete or know they'll hardly play. A patch on your sleeve isn't a guarantee of anything, especially at pay to play DA/MLS clubs.

In addition to above - in the NE there are scores of quality D3 schools and fewer big D1 soccer programs. Since most students will stay within a 1/2 day's drive from home that means there are many great options from ME to PA and down to VA. Financially, at top D3s it's very tough to get good merit money, but if you target a notch below and your grades and scores are above their typical applicant, many smaller D3s will give generously with merit $. Those $ stick all four years as long as you keep up your GPA. For many families affordability or graduating with little to know debt matters a great deal

OW sends their players to Endicott. Spin that anyway you want, but the truth is it's a waste to play at OW just to end up at Endicott.

last year's list from USDA. OW's UNH players have fared better than UCONN. The rest can be judged for the quality as you all see fit

Oakwood SC Joey Zarra UCONN* - on 2019 roster, not on 2020
Oakwood SC Owen Guglielmino UCONN - still on
Oakwood SC Dylan Maxon UNH - still on
Oakwood SC Benny Pierson Albany - still on
Oakwood SC Matt Supczak Bryant College - still on
Oakwood SC Evan Southern St. Louis - nowhere to be found
Oakwood SC Justin Figueiredo Western Connecticut State University - still on
Oakwood SC Chris Alwang UCONN - on 2019 roster, not on 2020 roster
Oakwood SC Billy Jones UNH - still on

Are rosters being kept up to date with no soccer going on? I would not have any confidence in a roster for 2020

So the rosters with OK kids listed are legit but the others without aren't? Ok. Almost all schools have their rosters listed, regardless of whether or not they're playing. Sure they're a moment in time but I have to believe programs publish the rosters they think they had for the fall plus many are hoping to play in the spring. Many who aren't playing are still practicing or working out (if the school allows/kids are on campus).

Alwang transferred from UCONN to Saint Louis University:

Driving from Weston to Glastonbury several times a week for three years must have been painful...
