    FSA Misinformation

Just woke up to an email from FSA. There are many details to go through but the one that stands out the most to me was the following statement

"During this time, we have been paying our coaching staff"

I know for a fact that this is NOT true, why lie to the players and parents about this?

    Hello Parents and Players,
As we look forward to having players, parents and FSA FC fans at the facility, we meet a number of challenges. We are moving forward day by day trying to navigate state and league guidelines, while keeping the health and safety of our players as our priority. We have outlined a few areas below, hoping the information will be helpful. Understand that all programming is subject to state and local rules.
    May – June
All players should be following training sessions and information provided by their coach. In addition, technical sessions for all age groups are held every Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday at 3:30 p.m. on Instagram Live and Facebook Live. All players U11 – U19 should continue the FIFA 11 Program 3 times per week. This is critical for injury prevention.
When will FSA FC players be allowed to train?
The facility is currently closed. We are hopeful that we will be allowed to open in the next few weeks. By that time, we will provide a detailed, progressive plan for opening. Players will be scheduled to return to play utilizing all outdoor fields, while maintaining social distancing protocol. When the plan of action is complete, it will be shared in addition to the rules for players and parents. In an effort to minimize equipment handling and prepare for the first sessions, players should plan to bring a properly inflated soccer ball, water bottle, and personal hand sanitizer to training. Health and safety standards are currently being modified for the club and facility.
When will try-outs be held and team placement for 2020-21?
The date to return to play changes weekly. Therefore, we will essentially look at the 2020-21 season as an extension of the 2020 spring season. All current FSA FC players will be invited to return to play for FSA FC. No tryouts will be necessary for existing players. Our goal is to keep our teams together and to begin training. The more continuity and less stress will hopefully benefit our players and families. We plan to send additional information and registration instructions in the beginning of June. Please understand that when players return, evaluation will continue.
Our players and their development will always be our priority. After placement, when we return to full play, players will continue to be evaluated. FSA FC, as stated in our contract, will reserve the right to move players to appropriate level teams if it is in the best interest of player and team development.
Players NEW to FSA FC will register online and will have the opportunity to schedule a try-out on an individual basis.
    Commitment, Fees and Credits
This COVID-19 crisis is challenging the survival of many businesses. FSA and FSA FC are among the businesses forced to close. Unfortunately, that eliminated the Memorial Weekend Tournament, Spring College Showcase, clinics and potentially summer leagues. During this time, we have been paying our coaching staff as we value their commitment to FSA FC and appreciate the effort that they are making to keep our players active and engaged while training at home. We are very proud of the facility that we offer our FSA FC members. In spite of the very significant loss of revenue and operating expenses required, we will do everything that we can to maintain the facility and offerings now and in the long term in spite of the financial impact. The good news is that while many training facilities will remain closed, we will have fields available to our families.
    Fees for 2020
The tuition for 2020-21 will not increase. The exception will be for players transitioning from 7v7 to 9v9; 9v9 to 11v11, or players changing the competitive level. (Example: transition from a CT team to an ECNL or NPL team. The fee is not an increase from 2020; but an increase for the program.)
Uniforms: In an effort to avoid cost increases, all players will wear the current uniform kit for the 2020-21 season. All players will be able to purchase replacement pieces online if needed. There will be specific deadlines posted to order additional or replacement gear. We will send an email when ordering is available.
Deposit and Payments: We will decrease the initial deposit and will increase the number of payments throughout the season so that each payment amount will be less. We will also extend the deadline for the final payment until March 1, 2021. We understand and respect that COVID-19 has been and will continue to be a financial burden for many of our families.
    Credits for Spring
There is still much uncertainty about the date to return to play. Therefore, the exact amount of the credit per player is currently being calculated for each age group. We have already paid for spring expenses such as league fees, tournament fees, registration fees, etc. We hope to receive at least partial credit for some of these club expenditures. Credits to families for the spring will be issued based on the age group, missed competitions, and team expenses for U9-U17 players. Please be patient as we determine the credit amounts in early June. Below is an outline of how the credit will be applied.
Must be a current player in good standing with FSA FC returning for the 2020-21 season
Player must complete the Commitment Package online for the 2020-21 season
Players must make the first payment for the 2020-21 season
Once the 3 steps are complete, the credit will be applied.
If you are not in good standing, you will receive the credit once your outstanding balance is paid in full and you complete the steps above.
If you are a U18/19 player who will not be returning in the fall due to graduation from high school, you will receive a partial refund. The amount will be determined once the training dates are announced.
We are all aware that we will together be facing challenges that we have not experienced prior to COVID-19. Our goal is to approach our new normal in the most optimistic way possible. As a club we will continue to focus on the growth and development of our players through this adversity. The immediate soccer environment might look different; however, for the social, emotional and physical well-being of our players, we need to allow them the opportunity to return to the game they love to play.
On behalf of the entire staff, we look forward to seeing everyone soon!

When you are part of a club for a decent amount of time and your not a moron, you develop friendships with coaches. Maybe its coaches doing summer training or coaches have a general interest in your kid bc she/he can play. FSA coaches were laid off within days of soccer stopping. Its sucks but is understandable in the situation and Im not faulting FSA for doing that. But to turn around and just lie to every parent that you were paying them? Its just wrong. The more time goes by without a refund or credit, the easier it will be on FSA management and they know that.

There are some tasty nuggets in that email.

Is this a case where the facility hurts the members of the club (not the owners)?

There is a whole paragraph about the how proud they are of the facility, but that the facility lost a bunch of income because no tournaments and clinics.
But i'm not sure how that should impact the members of the club, the facility is a separate business.

So is all the tuition money paid by the families in the club being used to replace the loss income from the facility?

If you were a member of a club who was renting space from a town for example, you just cancel those practices and games and you aren't billed for that time.

Are we to assume that the facility is still getting paid in full by the club to use the fields even though there have been no practices and games?

            Read between the lines

True. Same for CFC and OW.

I just heard from a friend whose child plays EDP. They finally canceled the season, and the club her kis play for is giving 30% credit, her kids are doing 1hour zoom twice a week by the coaches.
How come fsa can't do this?

Most FSA coaches provide programs for their kids to follow and have zooms at least we once a week. About the Refund....well you have to ask the cheap owners who only care about filling up the Mercedes with premium fuel

Everyone bashed CFC for being disconnected with separate branches almost like a collection of different clubs, luck of the draw.

To be honest, FSA is just the same but all in one location. I have been there with my daughter for a long time. We have had great coaches and not so great coaches. We have seen so many different styles of coaching that doesn’t seem in line with the rest of the club let alone the coach from the previous year. There is no cohesion at all. The coaches do their own thing and it isn’t monitored very much at all.

So to answer your question, I bet some coaches at FSA are doing great things with their teams remotely, including Zoom meetings. But many coaches are not doing anything at all or very little at best. And who can blame them if they haven’t been getting paid?

So all of these clubs are getting credits for league fees, etc that I assume they will use towards next season... yet the families still have to take the hit for fees these clubs won't be paying in the fall? Some clubs haven't paid coaches (or paid them because they got the forgiveness loan if they keep them on payroll), they haven't paid refs, they haven't paid for fields... For those that run summer camps, they are still charging full price. I get it's a business but they need do more for these families.

That’s micks fault. Too busy with his head up the NCAAs arses to come up with a coach curriculum or a Player development plan. Fsa only has a plan to suck money out of Club parents

Its clear that none of you work for FSA. Only the full time coaches were laid off which is only 3. Everybody that is part of this club is employed through the facility and not the club directly meaning their coaches employment status is different than any other Club in CT. They were laid off so that if they wanted they could collect unemployment. Hate all you want but all youth clubs are run as business and the quicker you understand this the better. As of June 1 ALL FSA coaches have been paid what was owed to them. FSA has the best facility around their girls program is in the top league in the country and boys program in the 2nd. Very easy to complain and hate. If youre one of them complaining stfu and put your so called talent where your mouth is
