Top ECNL teams have National team players and kids going to North Carolina, Duke, etc. They are stacked with talent. The bottom half of their rosters might have similar talent to some on the NPL team but most second team NPL clubs can’t compete with the top half talent of those ECNL clubs.

Even mediocre ECNL clubs often have 2 or 3 kids who are top 10 players in their state. Good NPL teams can hang with the remainder of the roster and play as a team to pull off the tie or win. I’ve seen it happen at several age groups over the last few years.
NEFC NPL (which will now be DPL) in a few age groups, have tied and beaten many ECNL clubs over the last few years. No they are not beating the top ECNL teams in the country, but they have tied or beat some middle/top half clubs.

This is true. NEFCs 05 NPL team tied Scorpions ECNL 2-2 at GPS Thanksgiving. Granted it was Scorpions 06 ECNL team, but it makes the statement true.

Don't think that's a good example in light of the 1-year difference. The 04 NPL team seemed to do okay against 04 ECNL teams, though.

Not if you saw the game. NEFC was completely overmatched and had almost no possession. They scored directly off a corner kick, as in a 1 in a 1000 shot that was pure luck. Scorpions dominated and had a ton a scoring opportunities. Unfortunately Scorpions only converted one, even though the ball slent the entire 2nd half in their attacking half. That match is a loss for NEFC 9 times out 10. Players speed of play was slow compared to ECNL. Sorry, that’s the truth.

Well, I can't argue with your assessment of their gameplay against Scorpions, since I wasn't at any of the games. However, NEFC 04s must have gotten lucky 3 times in a row because they drew all their games and finished even with Scorpions in the standings.

Even if true, you are talking NEFC’s second team at that age group versus Scorpions first. Probably holds true that Scorpions have a few superstars on their team and the rest are similar to the NPL players at NEFC. Good for NEFC for hanging with them. I wonder what NEFC’s top team would have done.
