Equal access to what?! The schools in urban areas are mostly chaotic because of the students and parents. Why should we equalize the chaos by spreading it out into better districts that have a far different agenda? Perhaps the kids in middle schools (or the end of 5th or 6th grade even) with strong attendance and grades should be the only ones that are offered spots in neighboring towns of their choice (like the current choice program but for dedicated individuals) as they have already demonstrated a commitment to school (unlike SO MANY of the kids and parents at my wife's urban school). Sorry, you are making your beds, sleep in it. YOUR education is what YOU (and your family) make it .... if there is no commitment, no district can get a kid into Harvard that doesn't attend, pay attention, and try!

Even if things aren't "officially open" without restrictions, we are open. People are not even wearing masks. It's too hot. People are hanging out again in big groups at their homes and beaches. The country is sick of being locked up.

We already have magnet schools. Just look at aerospace academy. Went from #11 on school digger to #58 in 2019 when they started mandating almost 90% hartford kids. If you go there and are white you WILL be bullied.

Most kids are excited to get in and then drop out after they realize they will be bullied mercilessly and the administrators only punish the kids that are Caucasian. Everyone else has a "Plan".

If we are going overboard, let’s go way overboard.
If schools don’t resume normally (no mask, no social distance) let us add a option.
I don’t want anything other than the above mentioned normal for my children
So how about they allow me to opt out of school for the year for my kids. They can go back when everything is back to normal.
There would be some big plus’s to sitting out a year especially related to sports.
Just seems fair if you allow teachers to take a leave of absence for virus.

At least around here they're still wearing them in stores etc. Yes it's also required but people aren't fighting over it either. Socially is a different story.

In our town I can't tell you how many of those kids I've seen drop out after 1-2 years from that program. Transportation becomes a huge issue for the families, as well as social issues (they don't get invited to kids' hours for playdates etc). It's not as easy as it sounds, and the number any district takes is also very limited.

                    Oh a gap year.
I could see some pro’s to that.

Yeah, my kid gets a covid redshirt to come back and be another year older than all of his peers on the badminton team. Good grief!

Sure, if they could work or travel or volunteer and would get something out of it. Much of that is off this year, but a 14 year old can't don much of any of that to begin with.

Take the year off and play soccer. Go play for MLS club. See how you like it.
                          Revs will take anybody.

There is zero chance that high school sports happen this fall. Schools with save a lot of money and there will be no risk involved with no sports. No buses to away games will put all liability on parents.
