Sad our culture can’t support a year round quality program for our girls but not surprised. Thorns will roll out the next best thing. The ability to play high school and have top coaching with NWSL ties and backing for the remaining 9 months out of the year is a done deal. Just like Timbers Academy for boys, this just became top tier Oregon for girls, probably starting with 04 age group? Heard ECNL is recognizing the NWSL teams and they will get an extra top flight showcase as well.
The Timbers Academy and The Thorns Academy are completely different. One is run by Timbers and the other ran by Westside. Thorns is another club just like PDX or THUSC. They will still have terrible ethics and morals, just like Westside has always had. If you think Connie will work well with the staff of the Thorns, you have drunk too much Kool-aid.

So wrong. So wrong. Cony pays himself so little. Check Westside‘s records, they have to report as a non profit. Only cares about putting together best competition with best competition. Heart for soccer and anyone who says you can’t contact players that have come to your events is just small, scared and spreading lies to parents. Shame on you.

You have your facts wrong. The Timbers/Thorns pay a fee to Westside to handle administrative tasks that clubs have to do to register players, pay entry fees, process unifrom orders, and other stuff. That's it.

"They will still have terrible ethics and morals."

You don't like Thorns, PDX, THUSC or Westside, so explain what you mean.

You can't even spell the guy's name right so do you even know what he does?

Looking at the recent ECNL club additions in OR, No Cal and Colorado, it would not surprise me if the only league travel games will be to Seattle. 8 ECNL teams between WA and OR. Would keep cost down and help with regional college recruiting.

              Watered Down

Years ago this was probably a good idea to create an elite girls league. Now it is a cash grab for league fees. This is now just the RCL first division with two Oregon sacrificial lambs, and the Thorns.

They should just come back to WSYS and OYSA at this point.

Oregon neighborhood club parents should of had a clue 5+ years age when their local 'club' told them it's time to travel across the USA during what had been a traditional OYSA/OPL club season as a bonus we will take off club play in the fall so you can take full advantage of the recreational HS season. This nearly year long travel platform really aligns with our club history of achievement out of state, well at least our parents income levels to afford said travel.

even if it is, how many elite players really exist in the NW anyway? I rather have this setup and travel less by plane than pretend to play elite flying to Cal, CO, UT, etc. The travel alone makes it a sham. Getting to play the higher level Wa teams will be great competition for OR teams.

Bordering Washington for centuries? Today you figure out you can go play your neighboring state after years of thoughtless national wide travel? P.T. Barnum is not pleased.

Plenty of good competition in the NW for local teams. No need to spend $7k per year on mindless travel to get slaughtered.
