          Ct democrats are visionaries. They have quite possibly set a record on the number of new taxes they are enacting, including stealth taxes like driving taxes, aka tolls. Crazy that we pay a sales tax on the purchase of a new car, an annual personal property tax on our cars, a tax on the gas that goes in it and now a tax on the privledge or driving it on the crappy roads in the state...seriously, fuk Ned and his democrat tax and spend dbags

            Where do you suggest the funding comes from for repairs? The state is broke. If you want that fixed the funds have to come from somewhere - either cuts to other parts of the budget or some form of revenue increases. If you use the roads more you should pay more to keep them up. The highways are also used by a huge number of out-of-state drivers who have few options to get from point A to point B. Create a two-part system where in-state drivers are charged less than out of state. Other states do it and now with the EazyPass technology it's easy to set up

              Don't believe any of it. The Federal Government sends millions to CT for the Interstate Highways. The State has been collecting two taxes on fossil fuels. The tax at the pump and the gross receipts tax. The only reason there is a shortfall is because of poor planning, poor management, and out of control spending Fast Truck buses that are nearly empty. Train cars purchased from the bone yards, all to score political points. All that needs to be done is to increase the gas tax. We won't have to spend $ 300 million, farm out the infrastructure to a private company and hope that the speculative estimates of out of state drivers will come true.

              Meanwhile, this is a direct deposit reach into the wallets and purses of the working class. If they build the gantries, it will take until 2023 to get them up and running. We could be bringing in millions over that time raising the gas tax. Especially now, with low prices. If they get Tolls approved, they will be back , increasing it every time they have a shortfall.
              Look at the history of the toll on the Throgs Neck Bridge as an example.

                SCOTUS has ruled that an out of state resident can purchase the transponder from a neighboring state , and obtain the same discount as the state resident. Mass and NY drivers will just get a CT EZ Pass, and there goes some of that " fair share" that Dems are counting on.

                  Drivers who frequently drive through the state might do that. The occasional pass-through driver will not go through that bother to ave $1 or 2.. It still would be a significant revenue source.

                      How do we know what behavior drivers will engage in ? Many may also get off an take a local road to avoid the toll. A it stands, the number of out of drivers is speculative. Could it also be argued that the addition of tolls may prevent out of state drivers from coming here for vacation, recreation, sporting events casinos?

                        The " poor" and anyone else that drives has more control over the amount of gas tax they pay, depending upon the vehicle they drive. An SUV and a small Honda would pay the same toll. The Honda gets more MPG, so the amount of gas tax paid is less.

                          A few $ won't stop someone from taking a vacation here or gamble (you're already ******* your money away lol). If you need to get from Boston to NYC are you really going to drive surface streets to get there to save a few $? No. Even less so if you're a truck or bus driver and time is money.

                          Why would you be so against something that can bring in "some" revenue that wouldn't cost residents anything?

                            Yesterday data was released stating that CT residents have the second highest tax burden as a percentage of income in the country. Just behind NY State , but the gap is closing. Lamont has at least a $ billion in other taxes to be added in addition to tolls.

                            How much more in taxes should we pay?

                                Take the majority of it from the welfare system and state agency administration cost budgets.
