Josh Sargent scored at both the U17 and U20 World Cups. He just signed with Werder Bremen in the Bundesliga after numerous Germans were after him
Tim Weah who scored a hat trick is son of George Weah, former world player of the year. Tim currently plays for PSG U19
Andrew Carleton had played for Atlanta United main team as 17 year old
James Sands signed with NYCFC main team as a 16
What word did I use to describe what I don't see on the team???

    STARS!!!

    Good players but NO STARS!!!

And your attempted defense proves my point. Werder Bremen is in 17th place out of 18 teams. And that's the best you got (and good for the player. I wish him nothing but the best) Some solid , good players. BUT NO STARS, or relative to future world cups, no difference makers. Apologists like you are the reason mediocrity will remain the rule in US soccer. The ability to scout, find difference makers at young ages, and then do something with them, is virtually non-existent.

Scouting what exactly? The wealthy kids whose parents have money to pay to play? or the wealthy kids who are chosen from that lot to play on academy kids owned by franchise billionaires with negative incentive for real competition?

Weston mckennie has the best publicity agent on the planet. And the same age and probably works United States soccer. I'm watching mckennie play for FC schalke and he is absolutely average yet the announcers are talking about him like he's the second coming of Leo Messi and Ronaldo combined. I began watching hoping to see something special from the kid but listening to the announcers is making me very aggravated in wondering what game they're watching.

McKinnie plays as a holding midfielder or a central defensive midfielder as such he's not going to be flashy like the stars mentioned. CDM cover the back line and do all the hard work covering lots of ground. In the game you watch he covered the second most ground of anyone

Your opinion is is stark contrast to Schalke who just signed him to a five year contract. Which makes him the longest signed player on their first team.

If you are watching the MLS playoff game you understand why the US Men failed. Horrible, dull and lack of skillful players. Is MLS to blame for USMNT failure?

That is not how the LA galaxy, Dallas, or Atlanta's academy's work. There is life outside of NE and in a ideal work the revs would not have an academy.

Except that we were beat by teams that have a players in MLS or worse, lower leagues. MLS isn't the problem per se, though our younger pros need more starts. The problem was a combination of poor selection, older aged players, poor coaching, lack of motivation by veterans, lack of consistency of effort and performance, lack of identity/play style, etc. Blame Sunil, blame Klinsman, blame Arena...

In 2006 the USMNT reached a international ranking of 4th in world. They had made it to the quarter-finals of the World Cup. Almost all of the top USMNT players played in the highest leagues in the world , EPL, Bundesliga, etc.

                    Today they don’t.

                    That’s why.

You describe a symptom, not the illness.

The problem (illness) is a crappy system within the US from the time a child begins play. A symptom is less players being pursued by European teams.

Do you honestly believe the US was the fourth best team in the world in 2006? Those international rankings are crap.

The QF appearance was in 2002 and the perfect storm. They got a break when Portugal choked and Mexico was their opponent in the round of 16.

"all of their top players"? Was it four or five? We have never had an abundance of world class players on the MNT

You’re picking apart particulars but missing the big point. The US may not have been 4th best in the world in 2006 but they were definitely in the top 10. We are nowhere near that in 2017.

They may have gotten a break in 2002 WC but they still made it to the quarters by winning the games they needed to win. We didn’t even qualify for WC this year.

Players like Tim Howard, Claudio Reyna, Demarcus Beasley, Brian McBride, Clint Dempsey, Frankie Hadjuk etc. were not playing MLS. Rather they were playing in the top domestic leagues in the world; EPL, Bundesliga etc. against the best players in the world. Today, our top players play in MLS (save Pulicic) against inferior competition. When we face top international competition our players aren’t used to playing against that level of skill and execution of tactics.

That MLS can now afford to pay top American players keeps our top players home. They are no longer forced to go to Europe to make a living. Hard to blame them. Living in the US beats living in Europe every day of the week. But it doesn’t produce better players.

How does "Living in the US beats living in Europe every day of the week"? Dollar goes a long way in Portugal. Futbol is every day, outdoors. What's your problem with living in Europe?
