The old OYSA qualifying process was a big money grab by OYSA. Random results often ended up with teams advancing that had no chance in gold, or teams that were way too good for silver or bronze. Both ways have issues, but only one cost a bunch of money. Or did you forget?

It was included in club fees so it didn't really cost people anything extra. It was basically an extra tournament at the start of fall league. It wasn't perfect but the current system isn't even good. The reason that the promotion/relegation thing doesn't work is that teams can change a lot from year to year. Qualifying makes you qualify with your new players not last years players.

It is dead and not coming back so get over it and turn the page.

Your right. Another fee or cost to the club that had no effect or reduction of the tuition we as parent pay.

It amazes me when the drone of OPL party line comes out. "Qualifiers was a money grab?" OK, so let's look at this one a little, ODP was cheaper (better also, if you consider more Oregon teams making it to next level) because it was subsidized by the whole organization. The primary problem with the whole money grab thing though is OPL never lowered the per person or per team participation cost. So the only thing that changed was instead of money going into OYSA to support statewide soccer, it went into the OPL general fund, where it just disappeared.

The reality is the whole of OPL is a "money grab". That is why the remaining large clubs so refuse to leave. People say it is about "power". The reality to recognize is it is about money.

But isn't that true at the pro-level too? In the EPL, Fulham was a mid-table team last year; this year they are absolutely atrocious and have been all season. In Fulham's case they've had close to 20 new players come into their overall squad and transferred over 20 in the last year. That is a bunch of change in personal, which doesn't seem completely out of the ordinary for mid- low-level EPL teams.

In La Liga, Betis was pretty good last year; they are absolutely horrible this year.

Pro-teams rosters change quite a bit season to season, but their leagues are still set-up around promotion/relegation.

Look at OYSAs budgets from back then and describe it as anything but. How many times did you go through it? Did your players get anything out of thrashing some B team 10 - 0 that first weekend? Did the other team? Did OYSA do it this year? If not, why not?

Get off the ODP thing. Did it. Thought it was a waste of time at any price.

Typical. Waste of your time ? It was your kid that was playing, not you. You (not your kid) are exactly the reason you should stay away.

                    I miss it

Where else but QTs could you see the Mt. Tabor Red Dragons face off against the Seaside Kahunas in a game where both teams needed the 10 point win to stay in contention for the premier league. BRING THEM BACK!

That was the sentiment of my kids. It was their time and they chose to do other things. It was, however, a waste of my money. College has been a better experience. That saves me money and they get more out of it.
