    Helicopter Parents

    https://www.si.com/more-sports/2019/...-lori-loughlin

Parents these days will go to the extremes to help give their kids an advantage. The college scandal is a prime example, but every time I go out on a youth soccer field I witness it as well. It's horrible. Soccer moms and dads kissing up to the coach, paying extra for private training (aka payment to play more), buying coach gifts, drinks when out, becoming team mom and gaining more influence. These are the helicopter parents who will stop at nothing to help their child achieve something that is not deserving. Next time you walk out to the practice field or game, pay attention to which parents walk up to coach before, after games, practices, see how many of their kids are starting, playing quite a bit, despite no obvious advantage in talent or physical abilities. Let your kids determine their future, not your obsessive parenting......................................

Baby boomers elevated this situation. Donations (bribes) started booming after WWII. So, it’s not parents today. The Trump family is a prime example of using donations (bribes) to get their kids places.

Nice deflection libtard. Let's focus on the liberals that bribed the schools.

Nope. Equal playing time. Trumps did it. Kushners did it. Loads of other Cons do it too, from CEOs to top law firm partners, senators.... The list from this scandals has several investment banker guys. Just because they're all from CA doesn't mean their Dems. Both sides of the aisle have parents that want to give their kid every possible advantage.

The difference is which ones did it illegally? Giving a huge financial contribution to a school may be questionable ethically but not illegal.

Very well put. And it just puts pressure on the rest of the parents who would rather not play the game just to keep up. I don't know what is more pathetic. These pathetic, back-stabbing parents trying to get a spot for their kid from somebody more deserving or the clubs that actually respond and foster this sort of environment. But they know the crazed parents are more likely to spend the money year-after-year and even better if extra siblings to leverage.

Great post. I'll go further and say Soccer Clubs work the same way.Yes some good players get to the next level but so do some Crap, leaving other good players behind.ODP leading by example.

Problem is most coaches are mediocre and starving that they actually let themselves be influenced. Too low capability to do their own thing so this is the result....

True, but the issue is...soccer is not a way of life here. For the amount of kids that really want to play the sport, we just do not have enough good coaches to meet the need. Look at the Tampa Bay area...

                              TBU
                              WWF
                              Celtic
                              Clearwater
                              FC Tampa Ranger
                              Oldmar FC
                              strictly
                              Liverpool
                              Dynamo

Not saying all these clubs are good, but that is a bunch of clubs with a bunch of team in one area. Talent and coaches are spread thin all because parents want their child to be competitive. Many are paying to drive all around the area for a coach with little more knowledge then the average volunteer dad.

I really wish the was a true hierarchy for player development...something streamlined.
