    HUGE College Admissions scandal

    https://www.washingtonpost.com/natio...=.5b174bc32322

BOSTON — College coaches and others have been charged in a sweeping admissions bribery case unsealed in federal court.

The racketeering conspiracy charges unveiled Tuesday were brought against the coaches at schools including Wake Forest University, Georgetown and the University of Southern California. Authorities say the coaches accepted bribes in exchange for admitting students as athletes, regardless of their ability.

Prosecutors say parents paid an admissions consultant $25 million from 2011 through February 2019 to bribe coaches and administrators to label their children as recruited athletes to boost their chances of getting into schools. Prosecutors allege that fake athletic profiles were also made to make students look like strong high school athletes when they actually weren’t.

Yale women's coach was caught in the operation - took a ton of coin - but now we know why he left in November https://www.bostonglobe.com/metro/20...3yM/story.html

Wow! I guess it will take a little time to sort through which coaches were involved. Wow!

How many of these were fake soccer players? They mentioned crew. But obviously if a soccer coach is involved some must have been fake soccer players

The Yale soccer coach was an informant (CW-3). So it's the soccer world, women in particular.

Yale coach was also charged with two counts. But it wasn't just soccer. Stanford sailing coach. Texas tennis coach. Men's soccer coach at UCLA. Georgetown tennis coach. Multiple coaches at USC, etc.

It involved many sports and schools and may have even more than what is in today's indictment. The ring leader set up a fake charity, bribed coaches and even SAT officials (a FL man took exams for students) ran a consultancy for wealthy clients then created fake athlete profiles for students to get them admitted.

"Singer would help his clients’ children by having another individual take SAT or ACT tests on behalf of the students, officials said. Parents would allegedly pay up to $75,000 for each test and wire money to “charitable accounts.” “Singer used the purported charitable donations from parents, at least in part, to bribe two SAT and ACT test administrators,” court documents stated.

Parents would take their children to therapists paid by Singer to receive notes saying the prospective students required extra time to take the standardized tests. Among the college coaches involved in the alleged scheme was Rudy Meredith, the former head women’s soccer coach at Yale, and John Vandemoer, the sailing coach at Stanford University.

For one applicant, Meredith — who resigned from his position in November — created a fake athletic profile and said the person was a recruit for the Yale women’s soccer team even though the applicant “did not play competitive soccer.” Singer gave Meredith $400,000 after the student was admitted to Yale, court documents stated.

A Georgetown tennis coach received bribe money between 2012 and 2018 from Singer that amounted to more than $2.7 million, according to the documents. “In exchange for the bribes, the Georgetown coach designated approximately 12 applicants as recruits for the Georgetown tennis team, including some who did not play tennis competitively, thereby facilitating their admission to the university,” documents read.
