Giving up HS Soccer has proven a bridge to far for all but the psycho's.

    Call FCP they are waiting!!!!

Most of the elite talent won't give up high school. So as long as GDA is good being a third tier offering, they will do fine.

Of course!. That is why several top clubs went back to ECNL. Meanwhile all USSF could get to fill in gaps are much weaker clubs. As quality sags more other clubs and players will depart next year. GDA is the one in trouble. It can survive and come out stronger if it shrinks by 30-40%.

Since Oregon has no 'elite' girls the Thorns have hundreds of girls trying out, you make a solid point.

Giving up HS soccer in Oregon is not a problem, absolutely.

Imagine if you were in a local club that gave up playing the state's top club teams and instead settled to play the recreational HS ilk.

The logic is incredible and the costs astronomical for travel to play clubs like CU and FC P.

You thought the US Soccer had issues and lacked brainpower.

[QUOTE]Since Oregon has no 'elite' girls the Thorns have hundreds of girls trying out, you make a solid point.[QUOTE]

Elite is not a well defined word, but suffice to say let’s go with girls with National team training invites as “elite”, because even if politics are in play, invite spots are extremely limited.

Last time I looked in the last three years Taryn from SW WA and Riley from SWWA plus the Camus, WA goalie and currently two CU girls had and have national team training invites.

Soccer culture in the NW is strong both recreationally, WA State has more adult rec soccer teams than any state in the US, with OR not far behind, to our support for professional female and male soccer teams. Are we Europe yet? No, but elite girls and boys can be created here. Foster Langford from SW WA now on Timbers? And of course our love of Futsal is supporting growth of the OR soccer technical scene, Marco Farfan anyone? Sure we need more, but so does every metro area, no one should ever be satisfied!! Girls and boys are increasingly benefiting from access to small sided soccer training. You think Johan Cruyff was satisfied creating two of the strongest academies in Europe (Netherlands and Barca Spain?). If he had not died in his 60’s he would have built more!!

And if we have new and upcoming possible youth girls national team invites in the making, how in the heck would anyone “yes you too” truly know? Are you tracking every girl on every team in the state at every age group? And if a girl gets invited some time in the next year or two, which it is not a matter of if, just a matter of when, it will be because of this community of soccer devotion and support. Not incorrect fatalists and generalists that state “there are no elite soccer players” here. High level players do not materialize over night. We need our soccer coaches and trainer professionals to keep bringing creativity to their learning and understanding of the game, leading strong valuable trainings and practices for our youth and playing opportunities. We need to thank them and inspire them and encourage them to cherish growing more and more talent in their jobs and energy for the teams they coach. Our girls are only as good as those that lead them and those who lead them are subject to this community and our requests of them either as paying parents or via the empowerment of our children to inspire their coaches to want to out coach and our train their fellow industry professionals in other markets.

You can believe that “OR soccer will somehow not produce any more elite soccer girl players”, but the odds are against you on this one. I choose to want to be a part of an inspiring local community both for our kids and for those that lead them. Talking soccer truly has the power to transform our community if more people wanted the same community (and acted with their words) on this forum to foster that goal. We all have a choice when we choose to put words on this forum. What will be yours? This is my first post ever after 9 months of reading everyone’s posts looking for kernels of constructive thought. Much harder to find on this forum than CA’s. We can change that with our individual decisions. More constructive use of this forum would be awesome!!!!!

HS soccer is a personal growth thing, a community thing and a hang time with your friends thing. There is more to life at 15,16,17 then chasing a wnt invite. In my humble opinion soccer is an activity and a tool for raising children.

GDA is losing all the top clubs, like slammers.

                High School Soccer

No one should give up high school sports. For athletes it is an important part of their youth. In the boys DA at least their is the carrot of being a home grow player but very few actually sign MLS contracts or worse they sign USL contracts that come with the address to the nearest soup kitchen.

What is you childhood worth ?

You agree that girls giving up HS soccer is equivalent to giving up their youth? Do you also still talk about scoring 4 touchdowns in one game for Polk High?

Are you asking USSF to dumb down their program so your kid can fulfill your dream of having them playing HS? Or are you advising kids to avoid programs where they're asked to make small sacrifices for a chance to see where their potential might take them?

If you and your child don't wish to give up high school soccer, then don't! You have plenty of options: OYSA, ECNL, etc. All of which take fall off so teenagers can play prep soccer.

Nobody is suggesting that these leagues be shut down or changed to ban high school participation.

Just don't whine if someone makes a different choice.

Yes. They want to have their cake and eat it too. They want their dd to be able to get 4A, 5A & 6A glory playing fun high school soccer against weak competition. They also want to brag that their dd is in a super elite United States Academy made up of only a select few of our nations’s most elite of elite athletes. It all comes down to parental delusions and bragging rights and nothing to do with development. Stop the whining already. USSF isn’t forcing any girl to give up anything. If you dd wants to play hs, play hs and club soccer. Totally up to you and your dd. Get a grip people!

But here I thought "Thornz Asylum" was only for sub-rec level players that can barely kick a football. Yet they seem awfully concerned with how Thornz runs things, and makes rules they do not like.

Thus is why they are struggling to get girls to sign up?
