Potential for Revs fan base exists. 600,000 soccer fans in the boston area, easy. Smart management taps into that with a new stadium. That's how they did it in Seattle and Atlanta.

The stadium could be on Pluto and it wouldn't change the fact that the team/management/coaching stinks and no true soccer fan base exists here or anywhere else in the US.. Post a Revs thread and try to talk about a game or the team. It will die a quick death. That goes for any MLS team. There seems to be many odd, psychological reasons folks here have an interest in the sport of soccer, but genuine affection for the game has little or nothing to do with it.

I would disagree. US was not even in the recent WC games and the viewership was higher than ever. There is a reason people can make a very good living being associated with just soccer (speciality sports shops, clubs, trainers, and so on). It's the golf industry on steroids. I'm not saying the Krafts should be running this. They should hire those who do know what they are doing, but there is a market and it's huge in Boston which is why there are so many clubs, soccer niches, and more.

Markets in Georgia, Washington, Florida, California, Utah, Kansas are thriving and increasing. You must not get out. Even your measly Revs get 12,000 driving down to turf Patriot outer suburbia to watch.

This is such a sign of the times. Anyone can make anything up and be internationally credible.

Seattle is no different than Boston. Seattle United Reign and Crossfire Premiere are doppelgangers for NEFC Breakers and Stars ECNL, and all the pretty players are dropped off in luxury SUVs by their parents employed by Tech, Med, or Academic employed parents. Parents seeking water cooler status and "offers" to the Patriot League equivalent West Coast Conference
Your comparing Seattle down town to Boston? NEFC and stars aren't in Boston. Both those clubs won't step near there why? One guess there's no money to make there. Maybe New York how are those clubs doing?

Crossfire is as much in downtown Seattle as NEFC is in downtown Boston.

Boston Celtics, Boston Bruins, Boston Red Sox. It has to be Boston Revolution. Can you imagine the “West Coast Galaxy”? So lame.

Boston isn't a microcosm of the US pro scene. Sport is flourishing in most of the country

New England Patriots seem to be doing fine

Ratings were way down. US not in it and times of games both had allot to do with it. Soccer participation is huge around here but that does not mean anything for the fan base. MLS is not a good league. Boston fans want championships in the best leagues in the world.

Yes, I am comparing SEA to BOS. United and Cossfire aren't downtown either, but they are funded by "Seattle" money. Do I really need to explain how Eastside is to Seattle as 128 is to Boston. The point remains that stadium downtown generates fan enthusiasm in a culture that knows little about soccer

There was an article posted elsewhere showing youth soccer participation has dropped 12% in just the last three years, as parents are frustrated with costs, travel, poor coaching etc. That won't help build a soccer culture. Besides the obvious lack of support from Kraft, I think Boston is a tough market for a new sport to become popular - fans have the Pats, Sox, Bruins and Celts. Locals fans have grown up with their teams. Many never played soccer. Not only do they need a new location that's a better size (it's depressing to see so many empty seats at Foxboro), easier access, but also a stronger team and a lot of creative marketing. It needs a multi year, multi pronged plan, something not in the interests of current ownership.

Your naivete about the surroundings is evident.

You have no idea about the futbal base in Medford, Malden, Cambridge, Everett, Revere and the international students (at least while they can still come to this country). The kids in this area also grow up with futbal. MLS will change, the Boston Revolution will be supported by the area fans just like Boston Bruins are. It's what people do.

and Celtics are NOT international. There is nothing international about the Red Sox. Why do people insist on this nonsense?
